Spending money doesn't lessen the grind and grinding isn't necessary anyway. Only reason you would grind is if you wanna level more girls.
I just checked some of the different Ranking Categories and a lot of the top players have "free to play" in ther descriptions.
I would have checked the Challenge Map Rankings but those are timed and the leaderboards for them disappear after a while.
