Do you think Goldeneye 64 is genuinely a good game, or is it overrated?

Goldeneye to me is a tech demo for what would eventually become Perfect Dark, but a tech demo of a great game is still a great tech demo.
of course goldeneye is a good game, it is just in 2020 you have so many choices that plugging in an N64 or emulating it just doesn't seem as enticing
I still play it on 1964. KB/M + 60FPS is frankly a godlike experience. Too bad it trivializes the game.
I will admit Perfect Dark is pretty much better on most aspects, but I dunno. Something about Ian Fleming's OC is cooler than Rare's OC.
Also, Goldfinger 64 is shit.
But user, Perfect Dark is just a tech demo of what would become TimeSplitters.
I have fond memories of playing it with friends as a child, but trying to play it as an adult is suffering.
Is this the new donkey Kong game?
touche, I suppose.
bond burger wide mouth
It's the best FPS of 1997. Nothing else comes close.
>Goldfinger 64 is shit.
kinda figured lol
I wonder if there is a rom patch to use the other bond characters
timsplitters is fun, but it just never felt as cohesive as perfect dark
Goldeneye is really good when you play with keyboard and mouse with full screen and a stable framerate.
Not for Goldeneye, ironically, but I think Goldeneye X has the "All Bonds" stuff.
>goldenye better than dark forces II

I played nightfire the way people older than me played golden eye. No, none of them hold up but the memories of late nights playing with the neighborhood kids are golden.
It's tough to go back to it with that performance, I think that can be fixed with emulators.
It was good for its time.
Everyone over analyzes things these days.
Indeed. I plugged in my N64 to play some Pokemon Puzzle League, then booted up Goldeneye and HOLY SHIT is the framerate garbage. Stick to 1964 GEPD.
it's great... for a console fps
Yes. The fact we're still discussing it 20 years later means it has staying power and was very influential. It was the pinnacle of console FPS on release. It's still a good time today. But advancements in the tech have rendered it a little outmoded so people used to modern shooters may have trouble with it, but once you adapt to the controls it's a solid game. The missions allow varying degrees of difficulty control, the ragdolling was good for the time, considering they only had partial access to shooting scripts and props they did great for adapting it into a game, and the cheats in the game are fuck as fuck and earned in great ways needing you to achieve goals not just rack up coins via grinding like other games with purchasable unlocks.
It's still pretty fun today.
Overrated.
It oozes soul which is its saving grace, also at the time it was pretty unique for a console shooter.
Anyone who thinks its better than something like nightfire is just blinded by nostalgia though.
I bought this game about a week ago for 25 bucks at a used game store for epic internet points when I post my game collection, should I actually play it or is it useless unless you have friends?
I mean, you bought it, user. Might as well play it.
Like, yes, the game is dated. And gameplay-wise, Perfect Dark is better. But Goldeneye's still solid. I'd say play it till like, the Surface level. If you don't enjoy it by then, then you probably won't.
The multiplayer is fucking bananas, yes. You should definitely get some pals and try some matches. Some rad time awaits if you do.
>goldeneye better than Blood
Everyone who complains about Goldeneye's controls is a colossal fucking retard who doesn't know how to open a menu and doesn't know that you can fucking move with the dpad side. Control scheme 1.2 is damn near modern FPS controls.
I think Goldeneye falls under the same category as things like Citizen Kane in that you appreciate their importance and understand what their legacy stems from but if someone told you their favourite film ever was Citizen Kane, you'd think they were an idiot.
You can go back and enjoy Goldeneye and have fond memories and enjoy every single moment with it from now until the end of time. You can't tell me that absolutely everything in Goldeneye hasn't been done better hundreds and hundreds of times by now in countless games.
Hard Mode: Apply this to Super Mario 64/Half Life/RE1/Fallout1
People like Goldeneye because that's where they made their memories of multiplayer. Perfect Dark is a better game.
havent played it in decades but ive a feeling it aged like the sourest of milks
TWINE is way better in every aspect.
Citizen Kane is actually kino and if someone said it was their favorite movie I'd think they have chad tier taste for picking such an obvious choice that most wouldn't dare to pick it.
is this like the ps1 version? Christ is that version horrible. On top of being 20FPS. I know it was another time, but who the FUCK releases A FUCKING FPS at 20FPS?
>if someone told you their favourite film ever was Citizen Kane, you'd think they were an idiot.
that is an idiotic statement user
Nope, the N64 version is a totally different game for some reason
It was fun but in retrospect it wasn't as good as DooMarathon
I just googled and apparently the two versions were made by two different studios.
