There's an old article on gematsu that said the producer was interested in a '9-2' even though he KNOWS that 9 wasn't well received so maybe it has a smaller budget since it reuses 9's assets. I guess I just dont want them to go: WELL 9 EMPIRES DIDN'T SELL ENOUGH SO ITS TIME TO SHELVE THE SERIES FOR A WHILE.

DW9 was just shit all around. Empires can't save it. Though Empires has also been incredibly boring with the modern installments so I'm a bit lost on why they'd make it in the first place.
Call me when Warriors Orochi: Empires becomes a thing.

I hope it's good, Empire was always my favourite version.
Good enough at least to tide me over until Bannerlord gets a Three Kingdoms mod.

To be fair Empires subseries has always been niche, but considering it basically recycles base assets + adds a character or two it's probably worth it for them to keep making Empires titles.

Isn't SW 2 Empires supposed to be the best of the Empires games? Why the fuck hasn't PC got that one yet? I bought 9 stupidly and have less than 3 hours playtime in it still because I still mostly play 8XL and 8 Empires.

Yeah I wanted it too but we never got it probably because the other Samurai Warriors games on PC didn't sell.

Especially annoying because SW2E has a 360 version that could've been ported at some point.

I don't think they'd shelve the series. It's the team's main money maker and it's probably a zero-effort affair to produce. Ideally, they'll give us a DW10 with some real care put into it in response to 9's lackluster reception, just like what happened with 7 and 6

it's "fans" like you that hold this series back. Empires is the natural evolution for this series in a game that's already aimed at being replayable.

but he's correct. The idea behind Empires is solid but it's never executed well and so ends up being a shittier experience than the base game.

They're not mutually exclusive. The ideal DW game would have the traditional RotK story mode, an empires mode (and maybe the strategy aspects of empires worked into the story missions gameplay), a bunch of bonus missions, and an edit mode that lets you take a CAW through all the other modes. I don't think they'd ever do that though, because it would be basically impossible for the next game to top it, and they earn more money selling Empires as its own separate thing.

I'm more annoyed because it's the same story all the time. DW7 was the last game changer with introduction of Jin and continuing the story for their stuff.
