When will this end
New GPUs come out
taiwan

Fuck off, this is a legit thread
Never, upgrade when your current shit no longer meets your needs, the next best thing will always be around the corner
Vtubers go on
nah you look for what you need and good prices, waiting is only for fags and if you are complete retard or know what are you doing
fuck off bugmen
Coco and Haachama did nothing wrong, fuck China. Tiananmen Square Massacre 1989 and Taiwan is an independent nation.
based
I really don't understand why people obsess over new GPU because the entire generation will be bottlenecked by the consoles anyway, so a newer but not top GPU is just enough for 99% of your needs
3080 is useless unless you use VR or something and even then it's a huge overkill
>When will this end
When you start living your own life instead of listening to idiots on Zig Forums and /g/
Life is too short to worry about one moderately expensive purchase every 5 years.
Ultimately, it's a pretty inexpensive hobby as far as hobbies go. I know fuckers that spend a 3080's worth every 3 months on golfing.
>Can you run new releases perfectly fine, at 30 FPS minimum on medium settings?
Don't upgrade
>Can you barely hit 10 fps and constantly find yourself playing on the lowest settings?
Time to upgrade
Also don't just upgrade to the latest shit unless you have a nice paycheck, just go for whatever seems good enough for you.
cringe
based
>30fps on medium
>don't upgrade
Your standards are pretty fucking low
Imagine listening to Zig Forums LMAO
there will never be another good AAA game. your 1080 will be sufficient for the next 40 years until we have full dive vr
>using the same pre built I bought 15 years ago
I only use my PC for emulation.
The advice to wait to buy new equipment generally comes from people who already have a computer for people who have them. You can put off buying a GPU if you already have one, more so if its running games at good speeds. If you are looking for something right now, check out the second hand sales of various cards and pick up whats within your budget. If you need to be told something, a GTX 1080 runs everything out right now fine.

How was I supposed to know Ampere would have shit capacitors and require a 1050W PSU?
When you're smart enough to make your own decisions user.
>tfw bought a 2080 for $300 on the release of the 3090
Get fucked retard. If you're a poorfag like me figure out when to buy shit and don't just wait for other people to tell you what to do like an autist.
You never need anything close to the best GPU for vidya senpai. It's all bullshit
i want to sniff her used pamps and then wear them myself, haha
Buy a GPU
Use it until it burns out, 4~5 years
Buy a reasonably-priced replacement, usually something from the previous generation, never buy refurbished and never spend more than $500 on a single module
Use it until it burns out, 4~5 years, etc.
I tell people this so there's less competition for the new models :)
I have 2 1080p monitors, so with my 1660 I can play literally everything at 1080/60 at max.
This. Graphics cards are a gimmick and 90% of the "new" features are shit that's exclusively utilized in tech demos. It takes a few years for technology to catch up. Absolutely nothing you can buy right now will utilize all of the functionality of a 3090, or even a 3080 at this point.
Why do you need permission to buy a computer piece
only upgrade if you can't get your desired FPS at your desired resolution
people that upgrade every time a new GPU comes out usually just want to wank to benchmarks
The answer is more simple than you think.
Buy gpus around what games you want to play.
Wait for a game you know will be great to come out then look at benchmarks and adjust accordingly to your personal requirements of fps/aspect ratio/resolution.
Do people not realize that there's barely any huge shifts in video card generational power? You buy it when you want it and need the upgrade. You get a card based around the kinds of games you play and the resolution/fps you want.
What, are you one of those retards who's looking to buy a 3090 so they can play Minecraft, League of Legends, and Fall Guys at 1080p on a 60hz monitor? Educate yourself and quit being such a pussy.
Yeah, for me the min threshold is 1080P/60 on low.
Based
Same, though with super here
>1080p/60hz
>turn off bloom
>turn off blur
>turn off DoF
>turn off all other lighting/glow tricks
>can now run all games at 60fps, otherwise max settings
When you will learn that waiting forever is for idiots like you and you have to pull the trigger some day because technology is always improving.
You'd be surprised by the sheer amount of retards who I've seen say. "Nice, can't wait to replace my 2080Ti with a 3080!!!!!!!"
They really don't fucking know what they're doing. I'd say OP is at least doing it somewhat right by waiting a few generations
What's a good monitor to upgrade to if I've been using 60hz, 1080p monitors for the past decade? Is 144hz the new sweet spot?
I'm not really concerned about size, I'll probably go 23"~25" max since I have limited desk space and I need two monitors.
trying to learn anything about computers as a scrub is awful. Reddit suggests pcpartpicker which helps but doesnt tell you shit.
/g/ is apparently famous for knowing nothing about computers or anything related to its topic and also troll genuine questions.
Google, youtube, and common searches give you mindless clickbait and 20 minute videos that summarize to "im not sure, you decide!"
Theres a reason people just buy new shiny card ooooo or just a pre built pc.
