My nephew quickly lost interest in mario odyssey and I tried to push him to play it but he kept failing and failing really easy easy jumps and eventually went back to minecraft which requires no reflexs at all.

Incorrect, Miyamoto himself has said in the past Mario is made for everyone. He has even gone out of his way to make sure some Mario games aren't too childish like with Galaxy. He even had issue with Mario doing the victory sign with his hands and got rid of it for the most part due to being too childish after SM64. Mario is genuinely for everyone, just because you see it as childish doesn't mean it is.

Simple, I like platformers. I enjoy them not only for the dexterity and challenge they present to me, but even easier ones like LittleBigPlanet are fun to play for their creativity and the potential for co-op (except NSMB which is horrible with even 2 players). Since not many big name studios make platformers anymore and it's mostly being left as an indie endeavor, it means I more often than not turn to Nintendo and namely Mario and Kirby.
