Does the series get better? I love games about organized crime but the ridiculous amount of silly sub quests is too much. The mini games are great fun though

The only thing that bothers me about the series really is their inability to commit to a given standard for a cutscene in a given scene. Instead you get multiple cases of fully animated & voiced, to dotdotdot dialog boxes, back to animated within the same string of story bits.

That is an obvious problem too. Even with what they do the quality is extremely inconsistent. Yakuza 0 has a lot of back and forth between prerendered, various ingame story cutscenes and substories. So you experience mocapped or carefully done facial animations for several minutes then jump back in game and you can't help to think how shitty it looks because ingame characters can only move their lips and maybe their brows with a straight face.
Since pretty much nothing is voiced outside major story elements it brings everything down. I don't know how they can thing it is okay to blow money on those big cutscenes but not voice the majority of the game.
Not to mention they copy everything they can and still can't spend time on making the environment a little better. The houses look like various boxes with some jpgs slapped on. This was fine on the Dreamcast but here it looks extremely dated.

Because the last time they did exactly that they cut the amount of substories in the game by 60% and it had an amount of minigames barely scraping past Yakuza 1 on the PS2.
