Can we take some time to recognize just how awful Minecraft's visual "style" is. You can't even draw it properly without betraying the intention. Its resolution is so bad that custom avatars don't really look like they're supposed to. It's just embarrassing next to everything else. Mega Man, who is going for his classic NES look, is still able to convey all the quirkiness and charm of that game on a proper updated model but Minecraft models are so utterly devoid of anything worthwhile visually. It's just the so bad it's good! irony poisoned zoomer vision.

Minecraft is a programmers game, which is why its so odd it became so popular. What i mean to say is, if you ever played game dev tycoon, its like if you made a game with 200 technology and 40 design, its way less form and more function. iirc Notch tried to use cuter more designed 3d models at one point but everyone hated it because it was too cute.
Apparently he had a list of Nintendo-mandated characters to do and Steve was the best option. That just makes me wonder what else was on that list

I mean, I understand liking it on the legos aspect. The game's popularity I get. I just never understood the attachment to the avatars since I know they were initially place holder and those newer designs were scrapped. I would think people would value the ability to have their own avatars in a game like that. The epic streamers would have their custom avatars and whatnot that people would be able to recognize no matter what content they are doing. But I guess it doesn't matter since it's in first person?
