I can see Microsoft and Nintendo agreeing to not add him into Smash because he's too violent plus Japan doesn't even know him, Master Chief on the otherhand is a shoe-in to get into Smash Ultimate. Finally, Master Chief vs Samus Aran, finally Chief can fight alongside his wife Samus.

Let's be real: western shit that's unpopular or obscure in Japan never had a chance.

Smash is a Japanese game aimed at Japanese people. Stuff like Banjo and Minecraft are both special exceptions, with the former being a ex-Nintendo IP that was a cult hit in Japan and the latter being the highest selling foreign game there. I just simply don't see why Nintendo would give a shit about western IPs that have never had any relevance in Japan, like Rayman or DOOM.

I feel like the only western rep that has a shot at this point is Crash Bandicoot, because unlike most other western mascots his games were actually wildly successful in Japan during the PS1 era. He stands out to me that no other remaining westernshit does.

smash at this point is more like a celebration of vidya as a whole so I wouldn't really understand why we wouldn't be getting at least some sort of FPS rep at this point, and considering DOOM is the game that popularized the genre to the point where any FPS released afterwards for a long while was called a "doom clone"
not to mention every single doom game has been on a nintendo console now except for eternal which is coming soon

It's really more a celebration of Nintendo + Japanese gaming.

However, characters like Banjo, Steve and Crash make enough sense for it because they were or still are big in Japan, and in the case of Banjo was formely a Nintendo co-owned IP.
