Whatever happened to Yo-kai Watch? Its most recent game's sales number in Japan are fucking ugly.

I might have played this if the monsters didn't look like shit

Based. The best way to experience Pokemon is a Minecraft mod anyway.

I've literally never heard of TemTem until today

>Stupid fucking name.
>Dumbass monster design
>Shitty writing.
>Not even fun

>Ooblets

>No console or mobile ports
>Not free
>Didn't capitalize on the hype early on

There is a reason beyond the Waifus that Genshin is popular, or hell even Fortnite, it's called accessibility.

>pokemon killer
No one was thinking that

.>Check steam page
>They added player housing
This really is pokemon MMO

Yes.

They actually were. I was in the threads being called a pokeshill for calling them retarded.

That bad, huh?

Pokemon needs its own FF14. A game that copies all the good aspects of pokemon, but leaves behind all the bad aspects. Then taking that game, giving it actually good visuals, and polish, and you have your first actual Pokemon killer.

FF14 may not have outright killed WoW, but it's actively siphoning players from WoW because it's clearly superior while still hitting the same gameplay vibe. In order for Pokemon to improve, we first need an actual viable competitor that attracts part of the 18m people that are still buying Pokemon games.

The only series with a chance, assuming it won't be a new one, will be Digimon. Digimon needs a big budget, open world game that captures the similar experience of Pokemon while being much more polished. Cyber Sleuth was close, but the world and gameplay loop still felt very boring compared to your average Pokemon adventure.

>steam
all games go to die on steam

It ain't going to happen. Pokemon is literally too big to fail. No matter how bad the games are the fact is the franchise isn't supported by the games (and it hasn't been for years), the games are supported by the franchise.

It doesn't matter if an existing series like Digimon or a new series like Yokai Watch ever released a series of stellar games because the primary audience for Pokemon are not the people playing the games. I'd go so far as to say of any franchise, Pokemon fans on the internet are the farthest away from the actual target audience. That's not to say they have bad taste, actually many of them have good taste. But they have zero influence on their franchise.

Honestly I am surprised its still that high.

See

Didn't jaos hate the new girl in the newest game or something?

Yep. People act like they would love Pokemon if it didn't have buttass graphics and new new features, but shit like TemTem falling flat shows everyone's full of shit. There's no competing with something like that.

That's what people said about WoW too, but it's clearly dying. Meanwhile Pokemon just had its best year since fucming Pokemania in 2000. The only difference is there is no good Pokemon alternative. Digimon feels way too different and other attempts like temtem just fall flat. There hasn't been a serious, AAA attempt at dethroning Pokemon since Digimon World on PS1 or maybe the DQM Joker series but even that series has no international appeal.

The only reason I can think of is trying to compete with Pokemon is intimidating. No one wants to waste time or money investing in a serious competitor if it'll just get ignored. It's a self fulfilling prophecy at this point.

The difference is WoW is a videogame, Pokemon is a multimedia empire. Stuff like Digimon and Yokai-Watch have comfortably accepted being much smaller scale series. They still make a shitload of money. Hell, even Temtem, which I did not personally care for, will likely get a sequel with the money they made. Whether any of those series or some new series release outstanding games isn't that important though. The videogames are just a small part of Pokemon these days. It's like trying to beat Disney by making a better cartoon than Mickey Mouse.

good luck, digimon

too expensive.

Just started Nexomon extinction, another mon clone.

It will reach no where close to half the sales of any pokemon game of course, but it's sad, as it's actually better than the last few games of Pokemon I've played so far. Been playing since I was 7, in the red and blue days too, so I've played them all.

Just starting out, but in terms of content it's loaded with main quests and side quests, you can catch all mons in one save file, and the animations are pretty good.

Shame nothing will ever change, and Sword and Shield indicates the series is only going to get worse, and fast.

Digimon Cyber Sleuth was a better Pokemon game than all Pokemon games since gen 5 or 4, easily.

TemTem.... LMAO. I laugh at all the suckers who bought that shit.
