How did they manage to turn a creepy demon killing game into an arcade shitshow?
How did they manage to turn a creepy demon killing game into an arcade shitshow?
doom was never creepy
well not creepy, but dark.
2016 felt a lot more serious while Eternal just feels like a minigame with all the shit youve got to manage
Overall enemies are much much brighter and dont look as scary as their 2016 counterpart
>DOOM
>creepy demon killing game
Kids these days, I swear...
Well, he's right about Eternal being an arcade shitshow at least
2016 still felt goofy, though
you can trace most of its designs to darksiders
...
how did they manage to make the game fun?
Closer to classic than 2016 was. Play the original some day, you can google it and play it in your browser of choice for free.
because they tried to make it more consistent with the rest of the series and then went too far in some places
Fuck no it's not closer to original. Original didn't have glowing 1-ups and other stupid shit like that.
>creepy
Ok zoomer
Filtered
all they did was bring up some old designs and make them fit a new art style
still no actual guns for zombiemen
still no actual low tech
supercharge is just a solid face attached to a spere with no animation
mancubi don't have the same classic firing pattern
health bottles don't give proper health bonuses
plasma rifle doesn't have recoil animation or the original sounds
doomguy's helmet isn't gray
and the demons still try to be blocky and joe mad-like, when classic doom demons range from traditional satanic portrayals to 80's movie props and metal covers
Zenimax faggots should be gassed.
2016 and Fecesnal were exact same console garbage, with absolutely nothing to do with "Doom".
Neither of those are Doom. Doom is supposed to be a wacky cartoon video game.
even gabe newell though doom had horror, which even influenced half-life's setting
>occasional dark ness
>suspense/slower music
>walls of faces
>some of the hanged corpses sprites
>weird flesh/body horror and hell bending reality
doom 3 just focused too much on horror because doom was like a silly campy b-movie that had action and horror in it
it was multiple things at once, hence it's portrayed very differently by many people at once
Doom 2016 was objectively the superior game.
It had the perfect progression of fighting in space stations to fighting in Hell.
Doom Eternal was a mess. It was kind of fun but not nearly as satisfying as 2016 was.
>[noun] was never [adjective]
fpwp
doom was goofy but a different kind of goofy
classic doom felt like it was taking a piss at anyone who said "you can't put violence and satanism in a videogame" since it's the same studio that thought of mecha hitler
new doom feels like it's goofy to make it safe, hence the darksiders/joe mad/chittin/moba aesthetic on most demon designs
and the lore and art direction treating doom as just some fusion of sci-fi and fantasy and filling it with pop culture references as if doom was duke nukem 3d
but at the same time, it may as well treat classic doom as if it was still too goofy, hence the "edgy" sountrack and the overdetailed designs
kinda like mcu movies tries to be quipy and family friendly but also treating comic book outfits as too silly
both 2016/eternal and 3 focus on specific parts of doom, hence they're opposites of each other and containt occasional flanderization
the difference is that one is based on a more acceptable version created by the public, while also having differences from what people started to percieve out of doom from the last 10 years
imagine if street fighter 6 made a deal about ryu being the most powerfull fighter in the universe and made him look like mortal kombat's scorpion
doom became "self aware" but a portion of it includes outside elements that aren't really from the games themselves
it's like saying sonic the hedgehog "returned to its roots" because they referenced sanic
This. Finishing up a replay of 2016 right now and am enjoying it so much more. Eternal was still better than most modern fast-paced action games, but there was just something about the overall package of 2016 that was magic.
doom 64 was creepy as fuck
spoiler alert, you're the faggot and also a retard
Dangerously based.
in general, if new doom was a different series, it could still be fun but also be unrecognizable as a vaguely doom inspired series
>no metal ost because mick's doom ost is made to remind you that DOOM IS METAL, so we might as well have orchestral fantasy/adventure music
>more cutscenes because of the lore focus
>no chainsaw/shotguns because it's a more hyperfuturistic setting when og doom was low tech, with a b-movie like aesthetic
>no "bfg" acronym because only gore and blood can be the mature elements
>no need for guns since the praetor suit might as well be doomguy being samus/iron man
>slayer could easily start off as a demigod instead of originally being a nameless human unlucky/tough marine whose face bleed when on low health or had his armor ripped in the cover
>no armor because being a second hp bar renders it boring, just give him 400 hp already
>enemies may improve or worsen, since there wouldn't be iconic doom monsters to base the "doom dance" direction on
>no "hell tech" because of how lore/art direction handles cyberdemons and the general fusion of sci-fi and hell
>no hell at all because besides that being related to the era and media consumed by id, new doom is written so heavily into sci-fi/fantasy elements, we could get aliens, orcs and goblins instead (we also got urdak as heaven when a mobile game gave us a holy water gun and quake had jesus props)
>no "doom" as the title because despite what you think and the tom cruise movie, doomguy was still "doomed"
doom 3 felt like it was just rewriting the premise to some extent
>classic lost soul
>simple design and a reflection of its era
>looks symbolic
>2016 lost soul
>visually complicated
>tries too hard to have a specific anatomy, making it more alien
>due to its attempts at trying to be too unique, it backfires and accidently shares a similar design/art style with some other games
>tries to be scarier but feels more cartoony than the original
Doom 2016 was atmospheric and had a coherent universe
Shiternal is zoomer: the video game
Just flashy shite everywhere
most of eternal's problems were just a result of stuff from 2016
for fucks' sake, doomguy's writing is essentially a fan depiction of him being canonized and altered
Fuck off, shill
In my opinion Doom Eternal represents a new genre of games. The basis is an FPS in the sense that you are in the character's view and have a weapon, but it is played as a mix of MMO with frantic action games. The game even offers "combos", which the player does by switching weapons quickly firing each one once.
Eternal was a little too meta in a few spots, but still pretty good overall. Hopefully they'll tone it down a notch in the dlc or next installment.
the monsters were all very cartoony except for archie
>NuDoom literally starts by making fun of cutscenes/plot exhibitions despite having a few of those moments in the game
>BasedEternal has exponentionally more unnecessary cutscenes and plot exhibition
I think the director of these games is schizophrenic.
