People are so worried they won’t have a PS5 in November they are choosing to pay for pre ordered consoles on eBay. Nobody is paying $1200 but I’ve seen $800 for the disc drive frequently.

Sony has intentionally (or unintentionally, depends on the rumor) held back stock so prices inflate because monkey brain consumer sees "High Price = High Quality product"
I wouldn't be surprised if Sony ups the price to $600 and says "We have to up the price because there's such limited stock, prease understandu"

Someone claims this EVERY console launch, whether it's Sony or Nintendo. It's never true. Fabs only have so much capacity and it costs an outrageous amount of money (and time) to build out more. TSMC have built out as much as they expect to be able to use for the next 5 years, Sony bought as much as they were willing to commit to, and in 6 months time supply will equal demand as it almost always does and they'll be glad they didn't overcommit at great expense. Microsoft bought WAY more than expected, either they thought the X launch is going to be Wii levels of crazy or they were just trying to cuck Sony. Either way, that's why the PS5 supply is constrained.

Ironic when you consider the only game worth a damn on the PS5 is Demon Souls 3.
