By removing edgy non horror like this shit. Once again, go play Neverending Nightmares or Fran Bow for your torture porn gore fetish. Keep it away from good horror.

let's fuck the ghosts

Are you ok, user? I just wanted to post an image with a fun party hat.

name something that scares you and make a horror story around it

dont worry user ill do it, look for my game in a couple of years

>Neverending Nightmares or Fran Bow
haven't played the first one, but fran bow ended up being more like a horror comedy

Thought you were the same guy that posted all that edgy shit as an example of "good" horror. My bad. We've got Amnesia coming out soon, so I wouldn't say it needs "fixing" until we see what that has to offer. They're few and far between but they're pretty solid.

Exactly my point. Just edgy gore for the sake of it that it starts to become a joke (see: friday the 13th, nightmare on elms, saw, scream, etc)

How will I know it's you, devfren?

you will know it in your heart, and itll be a re-hash of silent hill 2

but, i mean, fran bow literally became a comedy in the last chapters, specially the last one with the monster waiting room

how is pic related?

The first saw had some good scenes. Well the scenes with the doctor/druggie chained in the room were good. Everything else totally detracted from the movie in my opinion. no reason to bring up the sequels

It's the only natural progression for such a shallow foundation. Like I said, every horror movie that had nothing to offer but gore immediately became jokes once they realized they could milk them. Games are longer format so you can see it happen in the same medium. The Cat Lady is a good example.

Its like a weird dream that threatens to become a full out nightmare but stays just in the edge of it, leaving you with a "whoa" impression when you wake up and then forget about it

>no reason to bring up the sequels
But it proves my point about shallow foundations. Once they made one movie, they realized there was nothing else to go one and it become cartoonish. When gore and edge is all you have, comedy is the only next step.

Anybody wanna tell me what was the point of "Jack the Ripper" in The Town Without Streets? Felt really out of place and went nowhere.

it's okay but nothing special

Play Fear & Hunger instead

I think a large part of the reason horror often becomes self parodying now is people are uncomfortable with legitimate repulsion, aversion and disgust. Not to get all 'everyones gone soft' but people struggle to create authentic art about horrible subjects because they don't have a grounding in them.

But repulsion for the sake of repulsion is terrible. Just look at the human centipede or the original i spit on your grave. Both terrible movies because, yeah they're repulsive, but that's it. There's nothing engaging about them other than a gut reflex. When a director can't make you feel an actual emotion (happiness, sadness, fear) there go for gut instincts, which is why gore and jumpscares have become so popular. Everyone is going to react because it's just a natural instinct but it's not earned at all.

The best parts of the first movie didn't involve gore at all. It was the psychological aspects that got me the first time watching. Scared the fuck out of me.
IDK man, people love the Saw sequels and i just can't sit through watching some dude/chick get slowly tortured to death. It disgusts the fuck out of me and i'm repulsed by it. Psychological/existential horror is where the real scares are.
pic rel made me think more than any horror film could and have an existential crisis at the same time on my first watch

Yes this applies to games because look at the era of jumpscare games back in 2011-2014

Im thinking of making an alice in wonderland themed horror game.
I wish there are more games like these. I remember playing it.

Well you're right about that. That's what made Saw 1 good was the parts that didn't just focus on gore. It's actually what tricked me into watching the others. There was a genuinely good crime drama to be explored with Detective Hoffman and Strahm, but every potential plot just ends in meaningless torture porn.

I guess im looking at it from a different angle, they are gross sure but they have such little grounding in reality or anyones experience they create no atmosphere. Perhaps i described my thought poorly but like points out, a lot of good 'horror' experiences dont come from what we now consider horror as a genre.

Not him, but I think Fran Bow never intended to be fully horror game, it was more like a dark fantasy game that relied on some weird elements that included gore. But the way Fran interacts with her world, and how the story progresses, to me it felt like it was always more like a fever dream, almost like a surrealistic piece in some way

At least there were some good games like SOMA that came out around that time. Too bad i spoiled the ending of it for myself or i would've actually played it.

That all sounds great and all, but what deeper meaning did it have. Directors / developers use that defense all the time but it's basically just buzzwords. You could say a serbian film feels like a fever dream, it doesn't change that it's just repulsion for the sake of repulsion.

Play World of Horror.

Actually, there’s a very simple way to fix it. Make the monsters genuinely unpleasant to look at

The ending ruined it for me, honestly, so I'm glad I got it spoiled. Nothing worse than spending hours of your time, getting invested in the characters, only for the game to basically laugh at you for giving a shit.

Say it with me now: ATMOSPHERE

Innovate, the horror genre has been stuck on the RE/SH formula for over two decades.

Funny, cause we are living in an era where new horror stories could come out of the tranny subject
>horror story about a woman caged in a man shaped armor and hunted by demons or shadows
>horror story about kids trying to stop their growth to avoid being devoured by an invisible threat
>horror story about a man being chased by mutilated monsters trying to convert him into one of them
the possibilities are limitless

Put the player into genuinely upsetting and uncomfortable situations.

SOMA is a great setting for making your brain make up things that are not there.

Fuan No Tane blows all of Ito's works out of the water

>repulsion, aversion and disgust
I don't know if those are the right words but you're onto something. Actual real life horror is ugly. It's not sexy or aesthetic or fun. It's extremely unpleasant and we don't like it. And you're right the nature of games as a product means people don't care/aren't lived enough to really make an artistic statement

cute

Make the monsters want to breed with you rather than kill you. Nothing is scarier than being forced to mate with an abomination.

Honestly? Something like this, but make it a horrifying rape at the hands of a genuinely fucked up monster

You could already re-read a significant chunk of body horror from a trans-angle. Hell you could probably make the case that 'The Fly' was secretly about being trans all along.

Or a game with enemies like the Lord Tensen from Jigokuraku. Gonna dump a few images
This is actual art jannies, not porn pls no ban

You're exactly right. Horror has been giving their characters mental issues for the longest time (hallucinations, ptsd, etc), when all the mental illness they could ever want is found in your average tranny. Just make a game / movie about their mind screaming for help as they mutilate themselves.

>Fuan No Tane
Based, but too short for my liking, although perhaps that's why they're pretty good.

But that's not an abomination and I honestly wouldn't mind. This is a cool idea for women but I feel like guys would be down to fuck anything that movies so it'd be a lot harder to make something unfuckable enough.

Or just make it about something similar.
A dying man gets a new body. It’s a robot body, and it’s better.
It’s not like in SOMA. This is 100% OG him.
But it starts getting into fucked up questions about body dysphoria

>remove shit i dont like and add more things i like

shut the fuck up phaggot
