So I'm playing on a HOTAS and VR Valve Index. I've only played about 4 hours so far. I think I've done two story missions? I've gotta say that the way to "move" from objective to objective in the story missions so far feels weird. Like, how your squad just auto tracks your forward direction sucks. I don't care for any of the characters so far, either.
Thankfully I decided to just play a couple rounds of fleet battles vs AI and it was a fucking blast. This game is going to absolutely shine in multiplayer and I don't think I've been this excited playing a game in a long time. The devs knew exactly what feel they were going for and it plays so well.

the negative reviews are people pointing out the dogshit VR support. Because a lot of people looking forward to this game, myself included, picked it up because it looked like it would be a good VR title. Which it's not. VR was clearly an afterthought because headset support is dogshit and VR controller support is nonexistent. This is the first EA game I've bought since Crysis and I'll probably end up refunding it
