Why is the original Xbox and its successor, the Xbox 360, notoriously so hard to emulate?

I mean the BC team at Xbox managed to get an OG and 360 emulator running games at native 4K, forced vsync, 16x texture filtering, ~60 FPS, and the Series X is going to have HDR forced implemented on all OG and 360 titles too.

it's clearly not impossible, but then again, these people who make emulators in their basement are not as skilled as the engineers at Microsoft.

powerpc architecture is notoriously hard to emulate. Nobody's sure what kind of voodoo magic Microsoft used to perfectly support 360 games on the xbox one.

Unironically this. Most of the good titles have ports on PC or PS3. Before 2019 there were only 3 games worth owning a 360 for, and now that's down to 2. Wish MS would foot the bill to remaster them, but no one cares about Mistwalker I guess. Hope Xenia goes somewhere, hate being tied to a fucking 360 just to play two of the best JRPGs of the 7th generation.

I tried to run Protect me Knight with Xenia and it wouldn't even recognize the game no matter how i packed or unpacked it

check the compatibility list, maybe they got it running tweaking something

No exclusives worth emulating. Especially now that PC has Halo and all future Xbox games are also on PC.

Xbone relies on special hardware support anyway, so it's not like the emulators will run unmodified on PC.

Technically it isn't a traditional emulator like the one they had on the Xbox 360

They need to convert the games code to an x86 instruction set, meaning only games that devs consent to having the source code converted (and even have the source code still) can be done.
It then runs a virtual machine emulating all elements of the xbox 360 hardware, and runs it from there.
way more complex than that of course but thats a simple verison.
The original xbox games are using the xbox emulator found inside the xbox 360 for some portions. so an emulator inside an emulator.

It has more to do with the fact that talented engineers are focus on web consoles like PlayStation and Nintendo garbage. If those talented people were just focused on xbox then we would have 360 and of xbox emulators that are damn near perfect. I’m surprised microsoft hasn’t release one yet for windows 10 and sell games on windows store.
