I play Minecraft often(with mods) and I did not want Steve to be in like, at all. Literally was the single only character I actively did not want in.

YouTube zoomer culture warped people's image of "Steve" as a concept. I was very anti-steve but when i saw how he was implemented both visually and in terms of moveset my opinion changed. It was like "oh It's a Minecraft player character" rather than whatever my mind had come to think "Steve" was.
The fact it's not using that fucking awful YouTube video / story mode version of the characters with mouths and expressions and shir probably helped too.
I just wish they had gone with something else besides those tennis skins. I'm looking forward to seeing an explanation of his mechanics tomorrow

To be fair, Steve has a fairly high powerlevel. I like to see that being expanded.

I place blame entirely on the insufferable Stevefags.
Even though I personally would have only had a stage and maybe a Mii costume to represent Minecraft, I have no qualms about it being in Smash. I have a ton of fond memories of playing the game when it was in the alpha, indev, infdev, and beta periods, plus with the popularity it has now, it just makes sense.
However, I don't care for how those sad assholes who insisted that Banjo was irrelevant and that Steve was more deserving of a spot are using this as an excuse to stir up year+ old bullshit. Yes, Steve is in Smash now. Why not just be happy about it happening, instead of trying to revive the whole Banjo vs Steve debate as though getting added in a year after the character you said never had a chance is the ultimate vindication?

Most importantly: the only reason he got in was because nintendo pushed it. Sakurai didn't want it. So it was a waste of his time and energy especially when western character slots in this pass are limited so we'll probably only get one more western character - the idea that steve took crash's or doomslayers slot shows the pathetic state of gaming
