OK, we have to answer this question once and for all: why are there so many people actually wanting Geno? >There are not that many people True, maybe fewer than 200, but it's still around 200 people going on websites, forums and stuff like that always bringing him up in discussions.
But that's not the main topic. Why is Geno popular among those people? Compare him to the other characters that have been discussed for a long time: Ridley? He is the main rival of Samus and always appear in Metroid. K. Rool? Was the main villain for most Donkey Kong games, and is still owned by Nintendo, plus won the Ballot. Banjo? While his franchise is on hiatus/dead, still had two succesful games on N64, appeared again on XBOX360 and even on Rare Replay as well as guest appearances. Despite being owned by Microsoft, the ballot and the good relations M and N have allowed him to get in.
And then you have Geno. He appeared in a whole lot of two games: Super Mario RPG as a member of the crew, and in SuperStar Saga in a cameo. That's it. There were no plans to bring him back. It's basically the same as asking for a side-character in any of the Paper Mario games (the bombs or the Koopas you get as allies). He is owned by Square-Enix, the most difficult company to work with. Why are there people still actively going on the internet asking for him? His last appearance was over 20 years ago, and the game is not that famous. Literally the only reason people talk about Geno nowadays is for him to get in Smash: that's it. Not the hope to revive the franchise as with Banjo, no hope to make him relevant in his own games again like K. Rool, the endgame is just Smash Bros. Genofags, explain yourselves.
tldr but I could care less about Geno either way. If he gets in at the very least I hope he has a good moveset.

It's just a small group of extremely vocal autists.

There are definitely way more than 200 people who want him in. Internet celebs have ensured that. As for why they want him in?
Because they think he would be a cool character. That's it, and that's all a character needs to be "worthy" of being in smash, as well as be a video game character. Sakurai and the team know he is a popular request, and the fact he was a mii costume and a spirit at all should say something, as well as sakurai literally saying he wanted to add him in the past. He will probably get in... Eventually. And I'm looking forward to v's reaction when he does.

Sunk cost fallacy
They already spent years arguing for Geno so they can't ever give it up
Ayden Rodriguez
yeah dude WAY more than 200, like 205 maybe even. Crazy numbers.
Jason Cruz
To be honest, it's mostly because I played him in a Brawl mod and he was really fun. I had played Super Mario RPG before that but he didn't personally stick with me then. So I root for him because he could be a character I'd actually have fun playing as. I don't think he's super likely but it would be nice if he could get in.
Mason Cruz
yes, "Geno in Smash" is in its purest sense just a meme
Ayden Ross
SMRPG is my favorite game, and I'd like it to be more represented. If it was with Geno as a fighter, then fine, if it was with Mallow as a fighter, I might like that better than Geno.
But on a less personal level, it's like how Banjo was heavily requested. A piece of Nintendo history, albeit a tiny one, is limited thanks to circumstance, not a lack of interest (Banjo being owned by Microsoft, Square Enix not willing to give more than a few Spirits). Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Geno is just a bandwagon character for retards to jump on.
>20 MILLION people have bought Smash Ultimate >thinking 30,000 means anything
Robert Cook
Newgrounds nostalgia.
Robert Sanders
Underage newfags who weren't even alive when Mario RPG came out jumping on the bandwagon. Nothing more than that. And no, they didn't play it.
Leo Russell
I know that Geno has way more people wanting him than that, by a grand margin. I just used it as an example to show that this mentality that no one knows about him is stupid. Obviously all of the people who want Geno are not restricted to subscribers of PapaGeno's.
Camden Murphy
I hope Geno gets costume'd tomorrow and that's all she wrote.
Leo Russell
One argument I never understood was Sakurai considering him for Brawl ages ago somehow makes him guaranteed.
You have an ocean of characters who were "considered". Almost none of them are in. What makes Geno more special than any of them?
You have characters who were actually planned for Brawl, and got far enough to have unfinished data in the code. Dixie, Toon Zelda, "Toon Sheik", and whatever pra_mai is, have all yet to make it in 12 years later. Despite having an unknown amount development done, Sakurai seemingly made no effort to bring them back. What makes Geno more special than them?

I'm too lazy to check, how are Fatman and the rest of the Geno spergs on smashboards coping with this news?
but yo, i want that bowser with a fucking wrecking ball man.
Josiah Nguyen
I’d rather have Pinocchio.
Isaac Peterson
Geno is going to be the Banjo for FP2 and he’ll be the biggest addition to Smash yet. You all think his Mii Costume will return but even if it’s missing in Steve’s Presentation tomorrow you’ll still insist it’ll come back anyways.
Looking forward to the fan favorite quartet being completed.
Because I'm not a zoomer and I actually played his game on my Snes when I was a kid.
Isaiah Parker
Most people don't even know where Geno comes from.
Landon Campbell
I think that argument is just used to show that Sakurai knows about the idea of him being in and doesn't totally despise it.
Nolan Howard
Because they're literal masochists and mental-gymnasts who have been trying to interpret eveything Nintendo does as a hint for Geno being in Smash for years, on an endless cycle of getting their hopes up and hyped as fuck only to be severely disappointed and trying to come up with new reasons for why "he still has a chance", all for an one-off secondary character in a 20+ year old spin-off game many of them have probably never even played.
Pic related, Genofag defending Geno's inclusion claiming him to be "an iconic part of gaming history", only to then, on the same video, call Dante, Doom Slayer and Master Chief "bandwagon characters" who would only be added in to appease loud voices.
It's a bandwagon. Sakurai said he wanted him once, and a couple other big youtubers said "oh idk maybe he'd be cool", and then it kinda snowballed. Nobody wants Geno because of SMRPG (and if they do, they acknowledge there are other, better characters), they just want him because he's Geno.
Dominic Allen
Steve is the Banjo of FP2 Mii presentation will have Monster Hunter costumes returning

About ten years ago Zig Forums started to delude themselves into thinking normies genuinely didn't start to use the Internet, or social media until 2007. What really happened that it was always popular among normies but millenials were kids when the internet and Computers were growing up, so they either had to share the computer with the family, use the computer at school or the library if you're poor, or just not have a computer at all. What really happened was the recession that year. A shitload of people lost their jobs and many to this day haven't even worked a job that paid as well since. Video games and computers provided cheap entertainment.
Caleb Sanders
He was the Sans Undertale of the Newgrounds era. And all the boomers from that era have turned into the old man from the SMRPG commercials and telling zoomers his story.
