the original

N64 version.

I would think N64
Gamecube version runs like ass and 3DS textures are too bright for the tone the game was going for.

1. Nintendo 64 Japanese Release (maximum skill required)
2. Nintendo 64 English Release (slightly casualized, with some minor dungeon edits and the owl-saving function)
3. 3DS version with github.com/leoetlino/project-restoration

Do not play any other versions. Under absolutely no fucking circumstances play the unmodified 3DS version.

The N64 version. The GC port is dogshit and lags/crashes often, the 3DS version has pants on head retarded changes like zora swimming and is also subjectively worse aesthetically.

Majora's Mask Randomizer on the N64

Original, even with the restoration patch for 3ds the colors and lighting are just better on the 64 version. Not to mention the redux for 64 add most the QoL stuff to the original (as if you need that shit anyways).

emulating it on widescreen is the best way to play

>pop in
No

I have no problem with the 3D version

>Under absolutely no fucking circumstances play the unmodified 3DS version.
I played that one for 70h for the first time and still fucking loved the game, one of the best experiences I've ever had, nothing wrong with the 3ds version.

For someone who has never played Majora's Mask before, they should play the original first.
I look at it the same way as something like Final Fantasy VII Remake: It's a fine experience, but it should NOT be your first experience. Play the original first.

It can't be compared to FF7R, that one is a completely different game, the 3DS version just changed the lighting, some minor mechanics and added better graphics and QOL features, it's overrall the same experience. Also, how the hell would I experience the original version without a N64? Emulators are terrible for that console.

I’d compare it more to playing the GameCube Mega Man collections. They don’t change entire levels or bosses or enemies, but the anti-QoL changes it has warrant playing the originals instead.

>how the hell would I experience the original version without a N64? Emulators are terrible for that console.
Nintendo 64 emulation, for Majora's Mask, is fine these days with a proper modern emulator like BizHawk.

It is necessary to play the N64 version for the full intended experience for the first playthrough. Any subsequent playthroughs can be played on the 3DS version, assuming that you patched it with the Majora Mask 3DS Project Restoration, a fan made patch that fixes its main issues.

Best version to play: Wii Version of N64 game. Gives all the benefits of the N64 version but with better visuals and gamecube controller.

Best version between the two: N64. I think the 3DS one is an interesting version to play as a repeat, but the changes are big enough where recommending it the first time players is not all recommended.

Worst: Zelda Collectors Edition. The game crashing fucks it up sadly.

I've never played this but why is the 3ds version so much worse? I've been thinking about trying it as my first "real" zelda after playing botw since I never played nintendo until the switch. Also is this a good first zelda?

this.

>I've never played this but why is the 3ds version so much worse?
Because the modern Nintendo has no balls.

>Also is this a good first zelda?
FUCK NO.
It's a DIRECT sequel to Ocarina Of Time, and designed for the veteran fans of OoT.
It'd be absolutely idiotic to start with MM. You'd lose a huge chunk of the references and the game's themes, not to mention the style of pacing is vastly different from the typical Zeldas, thanks to the real-time count down of time.

tl;dr: play Ocarina of time first. It's THE quintessential video game. Emulate the N64 original v1.0.

alright will do. I've heard majora's mask is really good but didn't know it was a direct sequel. Plus OoT is fairly legendary and probably worth a go. What about the 3ds version of that game not that I have a 3DS

>Best version to play: Wii Version of N64 game
No. It's just official emulation with all the censorship, and no better than GC port, besides by stability maybe.
Just grab P64 and the original NTSC release.

>I've never played this but why is the 3ds version so much worse?
Idiotic gameplay and art-style changes, resulted partially by the handheld platform & need to let players play in shorter sessions, partly just because of Nintendo patronizing modern players. Some of the darker stuff was toned down, most likely because Shigeru didn't oversee the original N64 game, so the devs had more freedom and dared to experiment.
There's also tons of filler content and generally slower pacing, which kinda conflicts with their own agendas I mentioned earlier.

>Plus OoT is fairly legendary and probably worth a go.
Not "probably". It absolutely is.

>What about the 3ds version of that game
Not as cancerous disaster as MM3D, but really not optimal way to start the game, unless you have no other choice, or just cannot stand 5th gen graphics or something.
Personally, I think the N64 OG has aged graciously, looking and playing damn nice (maybe after a short adjustment period if you've not played this old games before). OoT does ease you in little by little, pretty much incorporating the earliest forms of tutorial sections I can recall in vidya.

The future PC port using source code and Nerrel’s Hd textures

>MM3Dfags pretending their version is even relevant when the 3DS is out of production

3DS, fuck playing at 20fps

64 and don't let retards tell you otherwise

N64 with your character model changed to Kafei

n64

>want to play MM because it looks weird has has achieved icon status
>have never played any Zelda game
>everyone says you have to play AOT first
>dont give a shit about anything but MM
its a hard life boys

I played Majora's Mask on the Wii VC and it ran flawlessly.
