I just finished my first Silent Hill game; Silent Hill 2. I thought I was diving into a great series but holy fuck the direction and puzzles are just ridiculous.

Because I thought SH2 was supposed to be the high bar of the series, with 4 being the low bar. I already had a PS2 emulator, so I dived right into it. Are you saying if I started with 1, 2 would be better enjoyed?

the puzzles aren't great, and neither is the combat desu, but it's worth it for the atmosphere, story, sound design, monster design, and overall package. i consulted a walkthrough on my first playthrough to get through a couple puzzles, it's no big deal.

Yeah man, the atmosphere, sound design were top notch, story was good as well. Definitely kept me going, not so much the actual game part of the game.

Even an oldass SH-fanatic like me HATES replaying SH2 the most of the originals. It's start is agonizing, and without the original's promise of things to come, many rookies have outright dropped the game before even getting to the park. The rest of the whiny bunch are just kids taught up by post-Amnesia / TLOU era walking sim or shooter "horror" games.
