I loved death stranding, but i fucking lost it when the healthbars appeared, and remember after this fight we get the "princess beach" line.
It wasn't deep or melancholic, but somehow still managed to be kino.

This. He clearly was trying very hard to find the same greatness that he found in the MGS4 Old Snake Vs. Liquid Ocelot fight. The only problem is that we've all already played MGS4, and in that game it was actually earned by making you relate to the characters over multiple generations.

Only thing I didn't like about the game. Even all that extra time didn't sufficiently tie up all the questions it presented, most of the actual story was told through emails or radio.

Sam's DOOMS was only Level 2. Since Amelie didn't want him to win in the beginning, and she's the one that gives everyone their DOOMS, it wouldn't make sense if Sam got "more powerful" during the fight.
