Anyone else wanna get nostalgic over this? I was SO loyal to EZ-Flash back in the day, started off with the EZ-Flash II, moved onto III and used it with a pass-me to boot into DS mode, before shortly moving onto IV Lite which was my favorite slot 2 card simply because at the time it was NEAR flush with the slot 2 port unlike Supercard and the likes. Finally the EZ-Flash V arrived for proper slot 1 support with the Vi variant coming later. Such memories... RTC support, custom themed kernels... I miss it user. Anyone here from Sosuke?
GBA Flashcart Era
Anyone remember f2a and their hw save/load state buttons? That was cool as fuck.
Not to mention the sick asf metal case the earlier models came in. I can literally smell the usb writer heating up as it burns to the cart yal.
I climbed aboard the flashcart train with the R4 unfortunately, so all these weird GBA carts and early DS solutions with Passme and shit were too early for me.
I do have an eLink cart though. It's kinda shit, I can only figure out how to make the client software run in Windows XP so I have to keep a VM around.
I honestly loved that era too, did you ever move past R4 or install Wood or whatever it was called?
R4 made my highschool life amazing. Got to play every DS game for free, and I spent about 200 hours playing Jump Ultimate Stars with Japanese players.
I still have a good variety of DS cards. I have the original (
I remember it well, it was a special era between GBA and DS honestly, going into school with a flashcart was something special. Also homebrew that made your DS look like a fuckin PDA.
Nobody here GBA era?
Oh god yeah I remember the legit R4s and their sd card spitting habits lel, I do respect your collection. Do you still play to this day?
Did anyone else have the gameboy game player for the Gamecube?
It reset my Pokemon Blue save and that was the saddest day of my life
Yea had it. Still do.
Used it a few times for pokemon RSE but that was about it.
Lost the disc unfortunately. Wouldn’t mind giving it another shake.
Whoa really? Jesus that's sad man, I had no idea that was a thing. Makes me wonder if any flashcards will boot on that thing...
I played DS regularly up until about a year or two ago.
I was kind of a poorfag before then so I just had a collection of 6th and 7th gen consoles (all hacked) and pirated everything. Since getting a PS4 I haven't been playing those machines as much, but they're still hooked up.
There's a homebrew replacement for the boot disc that works better than the real deal these days.
Nice! It's a shame exploits aren't what they used to be, but then again, neither are the games.
I remember my buddy having a flashcart back in the early days, I was jealous, but not that jealous when I learnt it cost him like 200 bucks for a whopping 64meg of storage or something.
Only bought mine much later, 20 bucks for the latest EZ flash. How times change.
Shit I always wanted one of these so I could play GBA games on my TV GameCube Adapter. For some reason anything before the Acekard was really hard for me to find in the UK. Especially nowaways
Yeah back when I started I was like 13 and begging my parents to shell out like 70 gbp for a cart so small it couldn't even fit the bigger games on. Which EZ flash you get boss?
Yeah, it was the wild west trying to find a distributor, then waiting MONTHS for china to deliver your shit.
>prepares toothpick and foil
I remember DealeXtreme was the best website to buy flashcards in the UK, until they were banned lmao.
You wouldn't happen to know a good place to buy them from now would you? I know I can literally play these on my phone now, but I kinda want to fulfill my childhood fantasy after reading this thread
It was a golden era for sure, in many ways it got me interesting in programming. It's so much harder to find exploits these days though, the older consoles were practically wide open.
Don't be silly, you're supposed to snip the end off a cotton bud and stick tin foil in there.
This homebrew is the holy grail for me. I've never been able to find it, but I have been curious ever since I heard about it.
I feel like frantically searching around for you but honestly, it's been so long that all my goto reliable stores are gone... I'd be just as helpful as you yourself on google unfortunately ;~; Someone pls help this user!
There was bridging battery pin stuff for the DS? I never bought a lite, so for me it was all about being jealous of the passme until real flashcarts turned up.
I had this one.
Parallel port was so fucking slow, plus it needed extra power, had a load of AA's in it I think. The software that came with it was garbage too.
Good times.
Yeah, Flashme was a custom firmware you could install so you didn't have to use a Passme every time. You had to bridge two contacts under the battery cover to install it.
The tricky part? There's a screw right next to the contacts and if you touch it the console reset, bricking your console if it's midway.
Anyone remember those rare DS phat models with DS lite screens that could be unlocked to full brightness using flashme lite?
Ahahaha holy shit, this really brings back memories... do you remember the devs name? I actually used to chat away with him before he done this, it's been so long...
I know! It's sad, it was so much fun back then.
Oh please, I literally rolled up a wad of tinfoil and prayed.
Look up fashme, basically yes!
This is an og chonker, my cousin had this in 128mb, it was my introduction to flash writers at the time, XP era.
DarkFader apparently.
what's a good flash cart for the GBA for modern times?
ez flash omega if you're normal
everdrive if you're autistic
I knew it was dark something, thanks for the memory trip, I legit forgot that happened. We used to be iNtErNet FriEndS and fell out after this incident, haha, what an era.
I'm awful to ask, I will just tell you EZ-Flash, but my opinions rest in the 00s. Surely there's some kind of everdrive for GBA, but still look into Omega at least.
Everdrive has always been the garbage option for retards. The chinks have been cloning them for years for a fraction of the cost.
>everdruve
>autistic
Why is it autistic and do either support motion controls?
