In the end, was it worth it?

In the end, was it worth it?
Did it surpass the original?

was pretty gud
xen was 2 long but was still enjoyable
final boss was much better but was also annoying

It was good. I don't think they should've made Xen as long as it was, though. There were some really cool moments, like going through the black mesa base with a bunch of HEV suit zombies, but without fighting human enemies, it got really old really fast.

Something about the weapon viewmodels felt incredibly off and unsatisfying

It's a nice sidegrade. I don't think it surpasses the original games but the addiction production values like the extra voice acting or mapping has its charms.

xen being long is okay; it was pretty

I'd say it was worth it, it's an amazing experience based on not much. It's a great game if you are half-life fan or not, but especially as a fan.

When the fuck is Operation Black Mesa and Guard Duty coming out? I fucking need it now

It'a a skeleton crew compared with the BM devs. It's a miracle the project is still going considering the lack of exposure at all.

Remakes can't surpass the original. It's like a law or something.

yes, easily id say

I'd much prefer to play Black Mesa over the original now, so i'd say yes.

It's not exactly how I'd have made it but it's good. I was fucking amazed by it in 2012. Xen got released far too late though.

I couldn't finish it because of a bug in zen where the game slows to 0fps then crashes. The devs expect you to fix it yourself. Master race.

The voice acting was dogshit except for the marines, who were voiced by the Insurgency guy. Overall 9/10 experience for me.

wat are these?

Just beat the gonarch today and it was fucking horrid
The jump pack in bm feels like shit compared to hl1, was constantly stubbing my toe on a pebble causing me to come to a complete stop while the gonarch comes in and sends me flying out of the skybox
Also the mini crabs kept jumping up at the exact moment when I would fire a rocket causing it to blow up in my face
Why the fuck couldn't they have given you ammo for the gluon gun to fight him with instead of 500 rockets to use and nothing else, I have no fucking clue

The Black Mesa versions of Opposing Force and Blue Shift, respectively. Sort of, it's an entirely different dev team. Or it was, pretty sure they're both deader than dirt.

They're still churning out updates back in July last i've checked. Shame about the lack of exposure they've had because they're actually putting out more details to their gameplay more than Black Mesa devs ever was at this point.

Huh, no shit, so they are. Gonna try not to get my hopes up anyway, but good to know there's still some lights on.

Well...

never played half life 1? play OG or this?

I never had any problem with the original Xen, so I don't really give a shit. It's pretty damn great anyway, but I refuse to play Half-Life without the OG scientists.

Play OG. Black mesa is just a shitty half life 2 conversion.

You can't go wrong either way but I personally prefer Black Mesa. Depends if you want Half Life 1's original gameplay or if you want prettier graphics and better story content.

I say yes, due to the little details that make Black Mesa feel more like an underground research facility compared to bland corridors in the original.

play the OG so you can play this after to see how it got remixed

didn't even finish it xen was grating on my nerves

Black Mesa just feels like a nice looking fan mod but it still feels like just a fan creation

worth the 20 dollars i paid for sure. familiar, but still original in a lot areas. sound track kicked ass as well.

No, new XEN levels made it even worse.

it's SOULLESS

That happens with the grunt containers get stuck in a door and pile up infinitely until the game crashes. You can get around it by using console commands to despawn the containers, but it really should have been fixed by now given how common of a bug it is.
