They failed to capitalize on Mania, they failed to capitalize on the demand for remakes/remasters, and they failed to capitalize on the movie's success. If they fail again, Sonic is dead.

Disagree, slightly. Sonic used to be badass but his modern counterpart is just so annoying. Classic Sonic was cool and rebellious and actually had a good attitude and was serious at times. Modern Sonic isn't modern, he's a 90s stereotype of the cool kids of the era.

But generations proves that 2 sonic can in fact exist, and it was actually fun. Now add some other characters and improve on generations input and we're cool
