You can't because Sonic gameplay loop is broken on the fundamental level. Sonic is supposed to be all about "gotta go fast" yet You could never so that in *any* Sonic game. Whenever you try to go fast you either:
1)run into a spike, an enemy, pitfall that completely breaks your momentum.
2) the level design is atrocious so you barely get to go full speed or if you get to full speed it's one way and it's linear.
it was a lightning in a bottle that worked because early 90's edge.

I honestly really tried to like this game and while the physics are on point the control scheme feels too weird. Sonic really shouldn't have to use two buttons for the spindash anymore, I don't know why it couldn't have just been X, yeah it was like that in the Genesis era but that's because there were only 3 face buttons? It also feels like his steering is delayed which makes tight corners a pain in the ass.
Project Hero looks much better and the controls feel much smoother. I feel like Utopia gets the praise it does because it was the first of the "classic sonic in green hill zone" Frameworks. SRB2 is much better and GT was actually finished

Plenty of Sonic games allow you to go fast but they get shit on because people think that Sonic 3 & Knuckles is the pinnacle of the series. It's how we ended up with the bloated shit that is Sonic Mania. "It lets you explore!" Fuck off.

As bad as Sonic 06 was it still ended up making a shitload of money because people legitimately thought it would be good and they still had a bunch of other games out at the time too so they could recoup their losses (which they did)
Nobody was hyped for Boom and Sega essentially pissed money down the drain over something that was basically dead on arrival. Not to mention nobody really owned a Wii U so it was a pointless endeavor. If you want to know why we get such barebones shit like Forces, there's your answer.
The only thing the humor (if you can call it that) did was get the redditors who played Colors and Lost World to clap at the poorly written attempts at humor

Sonic in 3D needs big levels with plenty of paths and a focus on speed, it's not that hard. Also multiple characters can be fun and are an easy way to make replaying levels more fun, specially if there are character specific paths/objectives.
