can someone please convince me why I shouldn't get a base model 2020 razer blade 15 with the i7 10th gen and the 2070?
a store here in aus has a good price for $2599. it's usually like $3300 or something absurd.
I don't really need it, but I can afford it -- and I want it.

No, razors are shit and have a history of quality problems. The best deals in aus for this class of laptop are clevo pb51 (metabox). TongfangGK7 (rp17/aftershock 17r lite) or vapor 15 pro (mag-15).

The infinity w5 (mech-15) is probably the straight up best quality you can get in aus for around this price but it's a bit more expensive than the others as it's not custom made.

I should add that that particular razor has a 2070 max q and max q is a meme so not as good as an actual 2070, the max q is prob on par with a 1660ti or 2060.

Also fwiw the best cpu right now you can get is the ryzen 7 but it's mainly only the omen 2020 (which you can't get in aus) and rp15/17 that make good use of it. Most laptops still only offer i7's.

what people don't talk about with gaming laptops is fighting the cooling all the time. sure, it CAN run those games, but have fun when it turns into a hot plate and your fans constantly run at full blast.

All gaming laptops are bad. They'll throttle like crazy, some of them sooner than others, but they'll throttle. Not worth the investment if you're going to use them mainly for gaming.

it's not 2006 any more. Just like all the rest of the IT, temperature management has improved tremendously in the last 5 years alone, aided by the ever smaller nm arcitecture + smart design.
Not to mention you can aid and adjust cooling in numerous ways yourself, from simply lowering some graphical settings / limiting the max performance, to merely using a 5 bucks' coolin pad underneath the machine.
