I’m about 5 hours in and haven’t really had fun since the Baldur fight. Does it get better?

no. the only other decent fight is against the last boss. the game is shit and it's onlu quality is the visuals.

I got the plat on it out of boredom and it never gets better. not even the valkyre fights are good

I felt the same way bro, even that Fight was a little dull, super strength the throwing of the trees, I hate to spoil it but when the boy gets sick, you start to feel that what you got yourself into out of the game may turn you into a pussy or a fucking Chad who wants to start a family. When you get to Asgard, it becomes the best game ever. You will never want to play anything else again.

Odin is only mentioned, Thor makes a 10 second cameo at the end, none of them are bosses only Baldur is

Until you go to play on a higher difficulty, are forced through all the walking and walking again, and start to understand the combat system and how fucked it actually is. It's pretty well the ultimate cocktease, I know I fell for it.

The main problem of this game is that it's basically an introduction. It is really frustating. Also ennemy variety sucks. Ragnarok has so much potential with everything this game has set up, but honestly GoW 2018 is not really a good game on its own, it will be remembered as a good introduction at most.

I've been replaying the game lately, I wouldn't lie and say it'll get better. There are plenty of boringly slow level traversal and I don't think there is a better Boss fight than Baldur (the game doesnt have many anyways and those it does are forgettable).
The gameplay is good, it's satisfying and is well executed. Too bad the moveset feels like basic level shit, like they're saving the good shit and weapons for the sequel and what we got here is just an introduction.
Traversing the game is yawn inducing, picking some small rock makes Kratos unable to run, why? It just wastes time and I don't see much of a point for it. And the hidden loading screens are obvious.
It's overall very mediocre, it fails as an RPG and as an action game, it's lacking.

It takes a while, because the game gates half of your axe combos and special attacks behind a skill tree. It ges fun once you can do more than swing/throw the axe and block/dodge

No. It gets much worse. Wait until you're forced into the shitty RPG mechanics where drauger will one shot you if the number above their head is higher than you. Then you'll be replaying the same troll boss about 5-10 more times.

The Baldur fights were shit. I don't get the love for them. The Valkyries were the only good bosses. I didn't hate the trolls, only the death guardian being one angered me. I hated the final boss because it is literally a mommy trying to stop two boys from fighting.

Optional bosses were out of my equation there, but sure.
Have only fought two so far, they're like a buffed up elves with diffrent gimmicks (I think they also have the same moveset). Not as fun as Baldur in my opinion, but they're good.
