This game is only impressive to VR newfags. Boneworks did everything here and better.

VR itself is only impressive to the same people who bought a 3D TV and Kinect.

I found the story and environments to be far superior in Alyx, though.
Also, inverse kinematics is a meme.
Been saying this since November last year.
Boneworks sandbox devmode was dank
ok that's a fucking lie. alyx took a fat nasty shit in boneworks' mouth. now try to scrub that image from your mind.
VR is a meme and if it was going to take off it already would have
what's the story of boneworks?
alyx was really damn impressive and good. it was worthy of the half life name. but what comes after it is when things really get interesting because I want to see how they can make a VR half life that focused more on combat rather than serving as an introduction to the concept.
>it was worthy of the half life name.
not with that god awful ending.
his game was pretty kino
They have different pros and cons. Alyx is very much a Half Life game, so you're expected to follow a linear path and have what you see directed by the developers. Boneworks is more freeform and encourages you to break the path to find secrets but can't direct you as well as a result.
the ending was based what do you mean? g-man was creepy as shit and it progressed the story in an unexpected way while increasing the stakes too. it was an amazing recovery considering it took over a decade to move on to the next part
To be fair, Boneworks was only impressive to VR newfags too.
What order should I play Boneworks, Alyx and Blades and Sorcery in terms of what they represent and introduce?
>I have yet to finish a single night of fnaf VR because I'm a huge pussy
>it was an amazing recovery considering it took over a decade to move on to the next part
Nigger it is literally the same fucking ending as the last game, only that game's extremely well delivered, iconic surprise ending has been totally undermined. It was terrible.
I think it's amazing how no one talks about this game, despite it being one of the most anticipated franchises for the longest time. Everyone was waiting for Half Life 3, and what we got instead was a flavor-of-the-month VR gimmick.
it was impressive at first until the motion sickness and nausea set in about an hour into it. the game was simply exhausting to play for any length of time. it took no consideration for making the thing comfortable (or fun) to play. i don't give a shit if its the best VR game in the world if it makes me feel vomiting anyway. the stick-and-move snap movement alyx had worked far better than simply dragging and dropping a generic FPS game into a VR environment and expecting it to just work.
I feel like eveyone who praised Alyx are just wanting to pretend they were part of some monumental event in gaming. It was about as weak as one of the episode installments. Played way too safe and clearly wasn't designed from the ground up for VR. It was largely boring.
Alyx then Boneworks, as Boneworks you do get more mobility options that you'll miss doing BW then Alyx.
Gunplay is very similar, though. However, Boneworks gets melee combat.
I've haven't tired Blades and Sorcery yet, so can't help you there.
but it will be good you'll see. next game they'll introduce gordon freeman VR gameplay. you'll fight through their interpretation of what ep3 would have been in VR, and at the end of it you use the borealis to transcend to the 5th dimension where g-man and his employers and all that business resides. then half life 3 happens there
>Played way too safe and clearly wasn't designed from the ground up for VR. It was largely boring.
The problem was mainly that Valve designed Alyx for people who had literally never played a VR game before, and they didn't want to rock the boat.
> eveyone who praised Alyx are just wanting to pretend they were part of some monumental event in gaming
This but with VR as a whole. People desperately want to believe that there will be another upheaval of the industry akin to the advent of 3D graphics, so they delude themselves into thinking that VR will bring about that revolution. In reality it will end up in the garbage bin of history along with a bunch of other tech gimmicks like wagglan.
Thanks user
I forgot how many small annoying enemies are in HL then they turn it up to 100 with those lightning fuckers.
Hopefully, with the positive reception Alyx got and the desire for more mobility from players, Valve will develop the next VR game with more options for "VR vets".
Seriously, Valve, I just want to move around faster in locomotion. I don't want to teleport.
No it was good fun. Sorry you got left behind.
You might be right. It was my first VR game and I was incredibly amazed by it.
You are half right I'd say at least about people wanting to pretend. It's already cemented itself as a economically viable niche as it's survived multiple generations of gaming. Comparing it to waggling is dishonest. But yeah it's not THE FUTURE or whatever the fuck people think it is.
>already outsold and outlived both
Why are you still pretending people take you seriously when you say that?
terrible bait, let's see proof you beat it
I disagree that it was simply a matter of who it was designed for and here's why. When i played the game first thing I noticed was the "hyper immersion" were simply copy pasted puzzles with different pieces. There was no consideration for the actual immersion for the player as a person in the world outside of throwing boxed and basic shit like that. I instantly hypothesized for my friends without knowing shit about its development that it was originally just a regular FPS and the VR got tacked on half way or near the end of development as almost an afterthought as far as conversion goes. Then valve came out and confirmed it.
tl;dr it doesnt matter who they made it for it still would have been fucking boring as a VR game
Medal of honor will take a fat shit on both of them
I'm only really getting a Quest 2 for porn since the Note 10 doesn't support their own fucking headset anymore.
>Played way too safe and clearly wasn't designed from the ground up for VR
The fuck are you talking about? It was literally pitched as "Half-Life in VR" to get the project started. As far as playing it safe, trying anything major in VR is already not playing it safe.
I'm still going to play Half Life Alyx.
It was pitched as that over half way through development.
That's totally fine user. More power to you. I think you should know though only 30% of people even beat it and it's incredibly short so take that as you will.
I'm still going to enjoy Half Life Alyx.
Now that's just silly. You haven't even played it yet. I recommend waiting to play it to decide if you enjoyed it or not.
