when it came out in 2009 people praised it for it's gritty tone/more serious story and the realistic physics, i dont remember anyone hating it.

It has some frame drops here and there but it's not terrible. The only thing holding it back other than no mods is that you can't turn down the traffic like on PC. That's what contributes most to the "lag", the rare instances where a ton of shit is happening on screen at once.

Don't forget the horrendous PC port that required GFWL

i also love san andreas and vice city(3 not that much, 5 was just ok), but 4 stuck with me on another level.i was amazed at the ragdoll physics at the time and shooting an npc in 4 still feels better than in 5.

I didn't hate it specifically because of that but I will admit that was one thing that turned me off. I was upset by a lot of weird things in this game that weren't actual problems when I was a kid

>planes can't be flown

To me, it felt like a downgrade back to GTA 3. I wasn't impressed by the graphics because I didn't have an HD TV yet and I didn't care about the amazing physics engine at the time. Still, I don't think I made an unfair assessment back then. The objective truth is that 4 lacks a lot of features that were in the previous few games. If you don't care about the fact that it's a next-gen game, 4 really is inferior to SA.
