Spooky mystery games

What are some good spooky puzzle mystery VN games to play during October? I've already been through some of Spike Chunsoft's catalog (Danganronpa, Zero Escape, AI: The Somnium Files) and am looking for something similar. Bonus points if it has some sort of interactivity beyond that of a standard VN

It's a gay furry itch.io game but PASSWORD is a murder mystery with alternate timelines.

These are all AGs (Adventure Games) not VNs
If you know Japanese I'd recommend the early Kill The Past games (Twilight Syndrome Tansaku-hen and Twilight Syndrome Kyumei-hen). This is my favorite AG of all time.

thanks for the suggestion. do you know if there's an english patch for any of the games in the series? it's a shame a lot of these games are never localized, Tsuihou Senkyo looks really cool.

If you liked ZE and AI you'll love 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. Not as spooky though but way harder into scifi and mystery.

Does puzzle agent count? It's western, but very similar to professor layton in layout/puzzle design.
