I beat this game for the first time a couple of days ago, and fuck man... this game was something else. It was a fucking experience.
Seriously, is there anything else like Silent Hill 2? Something that achieves that perfect balance between dread and melancholy? that fucking atmosphere man youtu.be/F0hl8M5v2nY
I've looked at the other Silent Hill games, and they just look like your typical dumb horror schlock. They focus more on the gore, monsters, and well, scaring the player. Not really what I'm looking for.
Silent Hill 1, 3 and 4. Cry Of Fear Afraid Of Monsters: DC
Mason Kelly
I know user, I had the same experience when I first played it myself back in the day. Foreboding sense of dread and hopelessness but you go on more as a habit than some a triumphant of the spirit. With a narrative that feels like you're in a dream. Unfortunately Silent Hill 2 is a unique experience. SH3 has it's moments, but it's just far too silly and unpolished in it's narrative. There are games that wear the trappings of horror but SH2 is so much more than gore porn (Outlast) or puzzles/mechanics (ResidentEvil). Might want to look into these: Shadow of the Colossus Dark Souls Majora's Mask What Remains of Edith Finch Probably some JRPG I am unaware of I've heard Amnesia - Machine for Pigs and Soma have these themes
Landon Price
>jumpscare horrorshit
"No"
Luke Hall
Try Penumbra. Similar vibes to Silent Hill 2 but different setting.
Elijah Parker
Right on the money with Dark Souls, but Amnesia MFP is a fucking abysmal game.
Joseph Fisher
Yes yes, you haven't played any of the games, and think that SH2 would be an unique little messiah game with zero jump spooks.
Brandon Rodriguez
>Shadow of the Colossus >Dark Souls >Majora's Mask If these count, then NieR and Nier: Automata are must plays as well. Throw in Talos Principle as a bit more optimistic and colorful take on the themes that people praise the SOMA for.
Not that i know of, im not sure if I want to play another game that makes you feel like that. I got the in water ending first, not a pleasant experience.
>penumbra I always thrive with pleasure when someone remembers that game
Landon Gutierrez
>Other SH games >focus more on the gore, monsters Literally no more than SH2. Gameplay is identical, and especially SH1 legit coined all the elements 2 is praised for today.
Cooper Davis
They (the first 2) are the far superior predecessors of Amnesia. My disappointment towards the latter was immeasurable when it finally arrived.
Wyatt Miller
Just beat SH2 for the first time last night and >that ending dialog Fuck...
David Sullivan
penumbra black plague is insanely good
John Thomas
Which ending did you get?
Matthew Turner
i just played silent hill 3, I was fully spoiled on 2, so my first game was 3 and I went blind I think it kinda sucked. The hospital was so fucking bad, and you cant fight the things that crawl on the ground or the dogs. when you spend the whole game ignoring enemies and just pushing them aside, they aren't scary anymore.
Colton Bell
Leave. Going to play some other PS2 horror games for October, and then come back to get the other endings. I've been putting off playing SH2 for a while and I am glad I finally sat down to play it.
Owen Davis
the water ending made me cry like a bitch
Kevin Phillips
Well as I put earlier on, cringe aside has some good games on it.
Wyatt Gonzalez
>Afraid of Monsters Why the FUCK do you people keep saying this game is freaky. I'm all for horror games having combat, but the combat also has to be unreliable
Isaac Watson
Soma has a nice start but gets fucking booooooriiiiiiiiiiiing
Kevin Wood
It's literally THE freakiest, outright terrifying and the most oppressive nightmare fuel I have ever experienced. It BTFO of any Silent Hill and such in terms of pure, unadulterated horror. And yes, you're constantly playing the underdog in AoM. You keep running out of supplies.
Adam Cox
Our protagonist also moves fast, it being a HL1 mod.
Andrew Morris
Yeah, I have a few of those lined up to play: Fatal Frame 2, Obscure, Haunting Ground, Ku-On, and Rule of Rose. Obviously I'm going to play Silent Hill 3 and 4 as well.
Matthew Nelson
And the opponents move even faster.
Owen Morris
not a game, but the show The Haunting of Hill House is the closest I've ever gotten to recreating the SH2 experience. highly recommend.
Connor Bell
How are you doing this? I've been meeting to get into PS2 emulation again after the PCXS2 update. Curious to see if some of the more fiddly games like Haunting Ground work well now.
Parker Ramirez
Freemcboot on a fat PS2. I've never had very good results with emulating unfortunately, so I went with this option.
Joshua Phillips
Shit, post was meant for
Zachary Lopez
>Something that achieves that perfect balance between dread and melancholy
Here's something I was wondering: >Horror game >Protagonist is actually extremely likable and 100% sympathetic, with nary a bad bone in their body >They still suffer immensely This, for me, is the worst kind of horror. Seeing a genuinely good person suffer
