I hacked my 3DS back when SM came out so I could inject for /vp/ anons, and haven't really touched it since. Will I have to update software and hack it again or will it still be good to go?

No. You can still add games and continue to do whatever as long as you have a hacked 3DS of any kind. All B9S does is add support for some DSi mode shit and further exploits that Luma 3DS takes advantage of but as long as you don't update your 3DS you should be fine to continue to add games and do shit as you normally would. You just won't be able to do anything that requires B9S.

What all does B9S entail? Treat me as you would a very small child or a golden tretriever.

Boot9strap is just a fancy name for a specific exploit, that will allow you to load a patched firmware when powering on the 3DS system.

If you're hacking a 3DS that has never been hacked before, the process can be simplified as following a guide, moving some files on and off the SD card, uploading and downloading some files from some special websites, and using these to install a DSiWare game to your 3DS before backing it.

You then use that DSiWare game to install the B9S exploit itself. After that, you use the exploit to set up a custom firmware called Luma 3DS, and set up things like homebrew and other tools.

If you have no need (e.g. game requires higher firmware, homebrew or patches that require luma3ds), then don't. if you do, you're advised to migrate to boot9strap+luma3ds. if you upgrade and want to merge your emunand into sysnand, there's a guide on how to do it on the 3ds hacks site.
if you have arm9loaderhax there's a guide to migrate on the 3ds hacks website.
if you have menuhax and rxtools then I think the process goes uninstall menuhax, boot into sysnand and switch your theme, then use install b9s with an exploit from the list from the website (e.g. browserhax, ntrboot). search around for more details and stuff.

I burned half the afternoon learning the theme editor after someone mentioned it in the last thread. I made a thing.

DS, yes. GBA, no. You can jus VC inject GBA roms, however you need B9S to take advantage of Twilight Menu++ to run DS games off the SD card.

Of course, if you order a flashcard, you don't need to worry about B9S if you just want to boot DS roms.

Not bad. Do any of the theme editor tutorials teach you how to add custom sound effects when moving the cursor around and selecting/cancelling stuff? Some of the better custom themes have neat custom sounds besides the BGM, like the top Mario theme on themeplaza.

There's no issues on the O3DS except for the fact that you lose some QoL features due to the lack of extra buttons
Also, unlike some other 3DS game mods, this one doesn't have any slowdowns and long loading times.

I have not seen any such tutorials, but the Usagi editor has a "CWAV window" where you import .bcwav files. I'd have to google that format on how to convert audio files, though. I'm not sure the LoopingAudioConverter you use for BGM can make those.
