I just beat this game for the first time. It's honestly pretty underrated. Why does everyone hate it so much? You guys didn't get filtered by the ghosts did you? I will admit the inventory management was pretty fucking annoying but I was pleasantly surprised by everything else.

You can leave Eileen in safe areas and come back for her when you clear the level.
>he didn't know
I did it this way. Don't even know how her AI behaves around enemies.
It's decent. I like all 3 previous games a shit load more but it's still one of the best horror games. Not that it's hard to be one of the best in that genre or anything with how many shitty games occupy it. It's the same for movies
Unequip her weapon and she will not rush enemies
Did you play on easy? She'll take damage if you leave her alone, resulting in a bad ending.
Nope I played on normal. Towards the end of the game she started to become possessed but I guess I kept it under a certain threshold since I still managed to get the good ending.
Well that's lucky, there is actually a glitch in the game where if you put a candle down and let it go out right before you examine the umbilical cord, at the end of the game, it will heal her back to full health. So there is always that as well.
Fixed it
Did you get the surprise "wall of dead babies"?
Oh hi Walt
Did you play the PC version with missing hauntings?

this is now a triangle man thread
It's very unpleasant to play by design and obviously had a rushed development, but all of that is part of the charm. I'm not surprised it's hated at all, but it is a great game and even someone who doesn't like it has to admit it does some great and unique things. I sincerely doubt anyone will ever capture what SH4 did with the apartment again, no one makes games like this anymore. It reminds me a lot of the movie Rear Window. Gotta love Walter as antagonist too and Eileen is one of the most beautiful women in vidya.

It's the most underrated game of Silent Hill and a rough diamond.
I did not, I played the GOG release so some of the hauntings were missing.
Yeah I didn't care too much about the hauntings. FWIW I looked them up on YouTube after I beat it. I will say though the game looks amazing upscaled at 1440p, it definitely holds up.
> looks amazing upscaled at 1440p, it definitely holds
Typically PC gamer, half the game can be missing. But at least it looks good.
popularity in a series like Silent Hill is only 20% subject to the actual quality of the game, highbrow series attract pseuds that wanna give their two cents so badly they'll exaggerate for attention
personally, above all else it was a weird note to end on before the series really started to go downhill.
the apartment in the first half of the game was cozy af, i don't care what anyone says
I got to the forest revisit and once I realized I was going to have to carry that torch to three other wells with Eileen in tow while being chased through every area (minus the center) and shot at I lost all desire to finish it.
Ghosts weren't really much of a problem. The ghost in the subway revisit was a little annoying from how persistent it was, but other than that they didn't really do much.
>I did not, I played the GOG release so some of the hauntings were missing.
Not true you just wont get every haunting on a single run they are random
The chick is probably the only ghost you would use you sword so she doesn't bother you later
I haven't played since release, but I remember loving the first half and then the second half (backtracking areas you've already visited on top of an escort quest while being chased down) ruined it.
I haven't bought anything on gog in a while. Might have to for this. It will have to wait till I am done with other stuff though.
Oh really? I couldn't get an exact answer from Google so I just assumed the hauntings were still missing. If not, then even more of a reason to play the game.
Buy it, it's well worth the money. The first hour isn't too great in my opinion but if you can get past the subway level then I think you'll like it. Just remember you can dump Eileen in a safe zone and then come back to her later if you don't feel like doing an escort mission for half the game.
the weapons break and the ghosts scare me but the rest of the game is good.
For me, it was a nice horror game but not really a Silent Hill. The inventory was way too small, having to go through each section of the game AGAIN for the second half was a let down and having to endure Eileen on top made it worse. Some aspects were really unpolished (burping nurses, PS1 extras in the streets although that's a really minor complaint). Visually, it was amazing for the PS2, the story was great and it had some really disturbing moments. Monsters were not as interesting as previous games, but because of the fucking noises the zombies made, I'm okay with it. It's somewhat a shame that the most interesting character is Walter and they didn't develop much more Henry (I suppose there's some symbolic regarding where he's at in his life, single, detached from his hometown and isolated - but it's so faint I'm not even sure they were going for that).
well it originally wasn't going to be silent hill but konami wanted to use the name instead of making a new ip
Yeah. I like how it's a safe zone for half the game, and then it just decides to go apeshit and removes one by one every thing that made you feel safe. In a way, it's sad that the game takes so long to kick in, because I'm sure some people will give up before - but on the other hand, the build up is necessary.
I'm pretty sure that was a rumour that was debunked.
