Honestly, it's like any Supergiant Games game.
The only downside I have for it is that the amount of time to get the true ending is about 3x the time it takes to get the first ending. It slows down considerably after you find your mom and convince her to come back to Hades with you and make the family whole.
All you have to tide you over for the next two-three dozen runs is gifting nectar, farming blood, and grinding trinkets.

Achilles is more consistent and safe of a bonus.
Hades is better for clearing big mobs, but usually they're not as big of an issue as bosses, which Achilles styles on much more easily.

It's because Guan Yu's base damage is fucking bonkers in comparison.
It's not Arthur, but I believe it's in second place. If you get some %damage from Boons, or some decent hammer upgrades, it can shave off health very rapidly. Each hit of the wheel is a full melee strike, and it can hit four times, healing you as it does.
But, as with any run, getting a bad set of upgrades can also dick you over. Guan Yu just gives you less room for error.
