how do we fix the arena shooter cycle?

TF3

the masses have proven they cant handle managing both aiming and movement. movement beyond walking forward means your game dies.

You don’t.

That's not a cycle, retard.

Tf2 proved this wrong, so did overwatch
The most popular heroes were lucio and genji who both had complicated movement

>OW
>complicated movement

haha

We wait and see what Microsoft will do with QC

Let's get real with what we're asking for here.
>"How do we get Arena shooters to catch the normies?"

You don't. Arenas are doomed to being a niche genre now. Why?
>90's
>person has never played game where you SHOOT PEOPLE
>woah a PC game where you SHOOT PEOPLE this is so cool and new
>2020
>all games are SHOOT PEOPLE and can be played without exuding much effort
>arena shooters require 10 hours to get 1 kill streak

Deal with it.

It'll only be saved by getting matched against people with even skill. Most people don't like grinding to get good by getting their ass ravaged 24/7. They prefer getting lightly fingered instead.

nobody designs FPS only for PC, and people who liked PC FPS games 15 years ago don't play games anymore

Nah, Arena Shooters are doom to fail because they don't have a niche, they are basic in their structure and design. Everybody is the same differentiated by kewl skins, and 10 guns. That's it.

People are so accustomed to what Overwatch did with making hero shooters, making complex backstories for them so people can waifu/relate-with, and they are basically their own character with their own niche and playstyle, that zoomers and normies can never go back. Arena shooters have gone the way of the stealth genre. Can't be a genre if it can be applied into something else as a feature with 20 different shits.

junkrat is the only character with interesting movement, because he is literally demoman

because in my opinion, theres not really a whole lot you can do with the arena shooter without taking out the arena in arena shooter. that and, esports truthfully yet sadly are not as fun as everyone hypes it up to be, a enviorment in which arena shooters thrive in.

I mean Quake champions already does those things you described, it's got lore, it has character backgrounds and motivations, each champion has it's own playstyle and such. The base arena style shooting is there except they've just modernized it and for what it's worth it kinda works. Unfortunately the game's technical issues held it back for the longest time and that it was outsourced to some literal who Russian developer hurt it's viability. If it was done by id themselves it probably would've fared a bit better.

Why not just add team modes so noobs can press F to do thing and learn the game easier

Make a decent game
champions is and always has been a low effort cash in that sucks on every technical level
diabotical has shit art and sound

See? It's not that hard you fucking dunce.

Base the game around actual team modes that are easy to understand/pick up and not a flawed and outdated gamemode from 1999.

lucio
>hold space to ride on wall
genji
>hold space to climb wall

also those aren't even close to the most popular heroes and almost every other characters consists of walking in a straight line or pushing a button to fly/charge/teleport
tf2 has rocket/sticky/flare jumping and trimping but that's about it for general use
overall, in both games you can perform just fine without knowing how to move quickly, you just have to have halfway decent aim or play support/medic if you're genuinely braindead
in quake and other arena shooters if someone knows how to bunnyhop at 1000mph and you don't they're going to gape your asshole and you're not going to lay a finger on them because they're just going to be a blur shooting rockets and railguns while you adad spam to no avail

i can do that, too
>any rocket character in an arena shooter
>shoot feet to jump high or go fast
so ez haha

You don't. Let this genre die already, sick and tired of you arenaniggers bitching and moaning.

We fix the cycle by first making the chart a cycle and then by actually listing the real problems instead of stupid 15 year old arguments that were never accurate. If the problems with arena shooters were that simple, they'd be solved. But that would be a productive conversation which is the opposite of what you want when you create low-quality OPs for the purpose of harvesting (you)'s.

Overwatch has less complicated movement than the first fucking Doom you bottomless ass.

Skill-based matchmaking has actively ruined arena shooters. It ruins the game for people who play these games to get better, and for people who play these games to just have fun. Not only that, but there isn't a matchmaking format in history that accurately puts people into fair games. The server format is required.

Why are boomers so spiteful? Is it because their adult lives have been nothing but boredom and constant reminiscing?

Hopefully revert Slash to her Q3A design.

given how many people i've seen try and fail to rocket jump in both quake and tf2 pubs I'd wager it's beyond the grasp of the average gamer
also at least rocket jumping requires some level of skill, genji and lucio are literally just
>look at wall
>hold w and space
>movement complete
not saying I dislike movement in OW, I played a lot of lucio, but it's easier than strafe jumping

Reminder Lawbreakers is actually a good game and you all just hate it because of the ugly niggers and tranny bathrooms

Arena Shooters are fucking boring modern shooters have some sort of minigame or puzzle like aspects to them that make rounds interesting meanwhile arena shooters just plop you down in a bland arena and expect you to enjoy running in circles shooting people with the same 10 guns for hours

As someone who only played q3a in my high school computer lab for 4 years I think they need to be given a fair shake with a big budget. Also it needs to focus on objectives and teams. So basically slow it down or don't bother making new ones. Gee wonder why Halo was so popular.

Make a good SP campaign without all kinds of extra mechanics or gimmicks and give it classic FPS MP modes on the side, maybe. Then again that probably won't work. They're in a pretty shit spot right now, not only are they unpopular but the few people who actually still play these games are usually so much better than any newcomer that trying to pick up a MP arena shooter is basically signing up to have others mop the floor with you. In order to have any chance of success a game like this needs to first have some other way to draw in a large playerbase so that when (some of) those players try MP, they numerically overwhelm the ancient Quake greybeards and as such mostly play among themselves, thus avoiding getting stomped forever and dropping the game.

because there is so god damn much tech to learn in arena shooters that the modern shooter throws away for a more intense and memorable expierience. quake live did its best to teach players but even that was too much for people. change too much and the purists get in a hissy fit, change too little and no one breaches the mark, ultimately culminating into the perfect recipie for a fun game thats dated and left alone
