People forgets this is a really small studio that blew up. Popularity isn't equal to the amount of resources and manpower aviable, and while that might translate to tons of dosh, the proess of expanding one's company and getting more employee's ready towork takes time, usually some months.
Maybe for Season 3 or 4 they step it up, but it was impossible to have so much new staff 2 months later unless they already had an extremely streamlined dev cycle.

In 90% of the cases the userbase stabilizes to decent numbers and keeps pulling money, jsut not that much.
The only thing more important than how much money you can make is how much money you need to keep afloat and push forward, and that sum is more often than not fairly small.
Nobody ever talks about games like Dauntless, SMITE, HUNT or even escape from Tarkov if you ask normies, yet all these games are still alive and getting content. Them dying +3 years down the line isn't the game failng, it's a success.
