Which handheld consoles are worth purchasing in 2020? Keep in mind that I never owned any, so I never played their exclusives

Get a vita and hack it, if you're interested in RPGs at all you have like 100+ hours of shit to try out. Even the homebrew is good as shit, I don't regret hacking it one bit.

All of them.

hacked 3ds

All of the above

If you want the latest handhelds, then definitely get a New 3DS and a Vita. Hack them and play all you want.

hacked vita and 3ds covers pretty much everything

And get a flashcart for regular ds games

Gameboy DMG 01. GBA modded with an AGS 101 screen, GBA SP AGS 101. DSI, new 3DS, Vita. It really depends on what you want out of it

n3ds and a vita
n3ds allows gives you access to 2000+ of games from all previous gens of nintendo handhelds as well snes, nes and genesis
vita gives you access to psp and ps1 library at a high performance as well as ton of homebrew and emulators

in short you will have enough games to last you a lifetime and more

hacked new 3ds
>dual screens and touch so the ds library will not feel out of place
>two joysticks
>big enough screens so anything will look decent

If you've got money, a GPD Win Max.

can't go wrong with Vita, 3DS and Wii U

Switch obviusly.

Modded Switch with 256GB card.

PSP

Don't get any unless you want to play online with native hardware. You can emulate them all on whatever you're posting from, except Switch and Vita on Android.

Why pay money when you can play ds games for free?

What are some decent Atelier games for Vita? I dig the aesthetics, but I can't decide what games are must play.

Switch and a N2DS/N3DS. Both are the only handhelds still supported. Despite the latter ending production it’s technically still supported. You can get one cheap on Walmart still until they’re gone or from Nintendo’s online store (not sure about outside US). Hacked 2DS/3DS has a lot of utility; it officially plays a lot of retro consoles and natively supports GBA and DS. The N64 emulator will probably never be perfect perfect but it’s coming along and still fairly new. The PS1 emulator is perfect in most games except it’s a retroarch core with all the autism settings and anything involving streamed loads will stutter. Switch gets shit on a lot here but I doubt most of it is even serious. Switch and switch lite are both great. I’ve been playing Skyrim portable. It’s just vanilla and it’s still Skyrim but I’m actually enjoying it a lot just because it’s portable.

I would avoid the older rechargeable battery portables. The Sony ones have proprietary batteries that cost as much as the console to replace and the replacements are old. The chink batteries don’t work. Vita has a better screen and form factor than N2DS/N3DS but the home brew emulators are on par and even worse in some cases. You get near flawless PS1 and PSP compatibility and that’s about it. You also get that on a PSP but the batteries in those are harder to find. The battery thing and Nintendo using fuses really kills the longevity of these consoles

I know this is a cop out but I would highly reccomend a GPD Win 2. It is unironically the best portable experience I've ever had, every gaming session feels like a premium experience and I no longer have to use watered down ports like Marvel vs Capcom 3 on PS Vita. I also play (old) Doom on it and it feels perfect.

3DS because they are a lot of 2nd hand ones around and hacking them is as easy enough. I did when covid kicked off and dam was it a time sync

Thanks everyone, I will get a 3ds since I like more Nintendo games

fuck off nincel retard

rude

Best bet I’d say is a 3DS, but if you’re more technically inclined you can very easily emulate any DS or earlier era games. Not sure if a full 3DS emulator exists yet, which is why I recommend it since certain games for it are unironically really good. Kid Icarus Uprising is on my top 5 favourite games and incredibly underrated

vita, 3ds, switch. can pretty much play all portable games with this combo

>emulation
gross

Just emulate them on a phone
Get a controller if you want

Switch
RG350M or RG350P, though you might want to get the RG351, not sure yet.
n3DS (hacked)
Vita (hacked) or PSP (hacked)

switch, hack it, emulate the rest
yes, there's a 3ds emulator for the switch (for patrons only)
