I've been trying to make up for it by occasionally drawfagging for these threads if that makes it any better.

the threads were still being made nightly before that video got posted. people were creating and sharing other oc's every night, but we thought the video was funny so we had faceless Sue edits. pretty sure the rise in threads is just associated with it now because a lot of the threads kept using the same edit in the op.
