To me it feels that XY and ORAS were the last time Gamefreak tried to emulate the 2D feel with 3D assets.
I personally think those 2 are great looking games, but god damn S&M and everything after just looks so dull.

I feel the other way, SM looked a lot better without the massive fucking heads.

Narrow corridors with a fixed camera are a remnant of 2D game-design and feel awful in 3D

I prefer the humans in Sun and Moon as well, but everything else looks like dogshit.
I miss the outlines and everything feeling kind of small (since its on a handheld).

Sword & Shield were very clearly 3DS games that were mangled into being Switch releases.

I'm talking about the look of the games, not how they play. Everything is so thinned out in the newer games, colors don't really pop, and the scale just doesn't feel right.
I wish they had stuck to pixel art instead.

i think its more that the game was rushed as fuck
what convinced me of that is the scene towards the end of the game where rose is talking to leon about their incredibly vague and uninteresting problem and they switch to a fucking slide show for some reason instead of a real cutscene. the whole game is just sloppy and rushed, not to even mention the graphics. whole game feels like a placeholder.

SwSh looks unfinished and the DLC looks worse, you think for the first mainline switch game they'd want to wow you a little, but I forget how lazy they are and the fans just eat shit.

GF is not a videogame company anymore
they make so much money and work really fucking hard on things that are way more succesful like all the toys, brand, theme parks, arcade machines, anime and so on that they can't even begin to give half a flying fuck about the videogames anymore because they are way more expensive to make, take longer and while you recover your investment you just don't earn enough and is a net loss for the company, and I agree that if they don't want to make them and they are not earning enough then without any ill meaning or insult they should just stop making pokemon games
but people still fucking demand more games, so they just make them as cheapily as possible and rushed with not a single person with talent in the development team in order to soften the blow of the game just managing to come even

Just as Sega stopped making consoles to focus on other things, I say with all my best intention that game freak should stop making games

I've noticed a very consistent trend that for the first 30 or so days of a Nintendo release, you simply can't critique the game without someone rabidly defending it. I'm not even talking about defending it on its genuine merits, but jumping straight to "I'm still buying it," "it'll sell well," "seething," etc. It happened with the Link's Awakening remake (which is almost totally forgotten now), it happened with the new Paper Mario, and it happened with 3D All Stars. And of course, it SUPER happened with SwSh, but you had extra Pokemon fanboys to deal with on top.

What's scary is there really are people who think Gamefreak and Nintendo are some kind of underdog, because the companies have managed to craft that image, compared to corporations like Sony, Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, etc.

That's what happens when you jump from hardware that's weaker than the GameCube that outputs at 240p to hardware stronger than the Wii U that outputs at 1080p. Natural progression =/= improvement. It's literally the bare minimum and is unavoidable given the leap in power and resolution.
