>humans have been dead for centuries/millennia
actually 5 to 10+, but yeah.
>But what’s all this about YorHa being designed to be killed and the whole “backdoor in the bunker” thing?
The Androids are doing literally the same thing as the Machines. Literally a kettle calling a pot black.
Both need a raison d'être, or they by the very design go nuts. So, a smart android boy, most likely 9S or his predecessor model, created an ever-lasting loop of war, destruction, and evolution. All which fuels itself, and repeats ad infinitum at best.
>Why isn’t 9S supposed to discover the truth?
Because the facade must go on, for everybody's sake. If you do side quests and read mails during C, you can start seeing the ripples of the truth being exposed affecting surviving androids, like Jackass going extra postal.
>The humans are dead anyway so the Androids are literally fighting for nothing.
Correct. But fighting is their only purpose and role, and like a typical machine, they aren't exactly good at re-evaluating their role in the universe and adapting to something new.
Yes, it may be a bit hard to understand as a human being, but at the same time it mirrors us, the mankind, and our tendency to justify exact same kind of behavior in a similar manner, playing an endless chicken / egg game for generations to come.
Mr Clemps did a great DrakeNier summary & analysis video essays already years ago, including covering the stage play and books. Watch those if nothing else.
You do not get to the NieR stuff with lvl 60 shit, and nobody should ever succumb to paying monthly fees for vidya.
