is there any laptop gamers here? :-)
Is there any laptop gamers here? :-)
im thinking of buying one so i can use it to check on my ingame shit, so it doesnt have to be good, just minimum 1080p 60fps and 16gb of ram and like 512gb of ssd storage
is acer nitro 5 best bet?
I have one with a 1070 and like 2tb combined.
Pretty nice and will last another good 2 years.
I travel between places at times so it helps.
I have an Acer predator with i5-7300HQ and GTX1050ti and 16gb of RAM. Still works pretty great for most games and after it becomes obsolete I'll just keep using it for emulation because it runs Dolphin and most PCSX2 games pretty great. The only issue with predator laptops is that most of the time the thermal paste is shit and you have to re-apply it yourself.
i got the acer nitro 5 2019 edition, its actually pretty fucken solid, a lot of expandability on space and ram
Literally just bought this laptop 2 days ago. So far so good, but need time to get used to it.
how long do you think it will last?
fuck msi, one of their daughter companies was caught scalping lmao
im hoping for 3 years atleast, it has a i5-9300h and gtx 1650, gonna slap some more ram in it and hope for the best. In all honesty it surprised me very pleasantly, by default the thermals arent even as bad as i thought, the backside is easy enough to open but it does feel like you're sodomizing it a bit. it has 2 fans in it in a bit of a weird config but it works. the grills are big enough for it to blow out enough air. Sadly it comes overvolted as fuck from the factory so i gave it a healthy undervolt and its very nice now
also it doesnt look too gamery retarded so i can just use it wherever
Can you recommend me some laptop user?
in what price tier
I have a surface book 2 with an i7 and a 1060m from work
its not technically a gaming laptop but its all I've been using lately moving around a lot
I love it to death but theres a lot of stuff I hate about it too
I have an Asus Zephyrus with RTX 2070. Works pretty well, can run any game on ultra with decent framerate.
Gets a bit toasty tho
any laptop gpu with an M in its name is an enemy of the people and should be fucking banned in the current age. We've reached the point where there's passively cooled variants of desktop cards and we cant stuff the same cards into an actively cooled laptop, they can fuck right off
700$-1300$ mark
for the cheaper side of things i'd suggest the acer nitro stuff, for the more expensive side i would suggest building a mini itx rig and getting a simpler laptop if you want to write stuff on it or work outside
thats one of the things I don't like about it, it does great on a lot of modern games, but some weird things get it to really slow down sometimes and run like a jet engine
I want to buy a real "gaming" laptop but I hate the aesthetic of most of these dinky plastic rgb covered pieces of meat and I really like the build on the surface book
the closest thing I like is the white razer blade, but I was moreso leaning towards spending a bit on a mini atx build thats easier to move because thats something I've wanted to do since I was in high school
im not angry that its marketed as mobile but that its called a 1060 or 1070 or .... even though its like a whole number slower, back in the day i had a 980M laptop and it was like a desktop 960 or even less.
Bought a MSI GP73 Leopard 8RE a little over a year ago. i7 8750h, 1060 6gb and 16gb ram and it's everything I need to last this gen
i know its gonna seem like shilling seeing as i've mentioned it in like the previous 10 posts but i am really really surprised by the acer nitro, i didnt want to buy a laptop but my hand was forced since i relocated somewhere for a decent amount of time and taking an entire tower was going to be a bother, i went to a fuck ton of shops and all the "gaming" laptops made me gag. the acer nitro has that red gaming cringe but its not that heavy and i still felt comfortable using it at the train station or a cafe
I play games on my laptop but only because it's my only PC. I didn't think this thing would be good for anything but simple emulators but it can manage lower-end indies and ports of games from before the mid-2000s pretty well.
I had one of these until recently. Adding extra ram does help a lot and it can run games just fine, but the thermals are pretty horrible and the fans are loud. Its not an issue if you play with headphones, but averaging 80-90*C on a lot of games was a pretty big turn off for me. I've heard re-applying thermal paste could drop it by around 10* but I never bothered.
its the voltage on the CPU its insanely overvolted, i dropped it by 100+ mv and nothing changed in terms of performance infact it managed to keep its boost clocks for longer, i dont know who signed off on the fans being right next to each other but for me its a really dumbass idea
I have a question, are there any good laptops (with good cooling so the fans dont rev up like crazy) that run above 1080p? I want one for work + games. More indie games/older ones, but wouldnt mind playing modern ones on medium.
better cooling means more bulk, so at some point you might aswell build a pc, there's only so big a laptop screen can be
>2 years
if your laptop is 1080p, a 1070 will last you a lot more.
Lenovo Legion reporting in for duty
laptops could be 3in thick and they'd still be perfectly fine as mobile gayming rigs. i don't get the obsession with making them as thin as possible
I got a lenovo legion y540 with a 1660TI, I7 9750H and 16 gigs of ram. Had it for a year now.
It runs literally everything I throw at it. I think I will be fine with it for another 2-3 years.
GUYS SRS QUESTION
So I'm quitting PC gaming but I wanna keep a laptop for VNs and shit like Prison Architect and similar indies. I don't move a lot and probably won't for a while due to corona shit. Should I get a 17 incher? Never worked on one before and I don't know how it'd look. Otherwise I can get a smaller one and hook it to my current monitor. Not sure if office laptop would be enough as I haven't built a PC in the past 5 years and I don't know the market and haven't been following it in the meantime.
Dell G3 15 seems like a decent laptop. I also really recommend some laptop from the Lenovo Y series. They are really great. They dont have that shitty gamer look.
I think acer helios may be good but i think that one is a bit more expensive
you can get a refurbished office laptop for like $200 that will run VNs and indie stuff just fine. just get the usual 8g ram and even some intel hd 4000 graphics would be fine
