games as a service & "looter shooters"
i have nothing else
>why do you still play
that's quite the assumption, I haven't played a game in 11 days now
I’ve been playing for over 20 years. I can’t remember my first game. Probably some 90s pc shareware.
Final Fantasy got hit the hardest. It’s totally dead—alive in name only now. MGS is over and ruined, Splinter Cell really did fade off into obscurity and thank goodness, or it would have been turned into some tranny simulator.
I hate all of these equally: gacha, loot boxes, cinematic and graphics prioritized over gameplay, 2meta4u reddit shit such as ddlc, open world games made in western countries, and really just any online game made in countries like America.
I still play because the older games are not really ruined by the passing of time. I can still enjoy them. And there is still some good new stuff coming out. I enjoyed RE2. And I like to see some good indie games. I am into game development now, too. My dream is to make the games that I want to see and have a positive impact on the industry. Maybe I can inspire people the way I was inspired. Who knows.
>years played
roughly 13
>first game
probably some flash. i've played a ton.
>ruined franchise
Orcs Must Die, the last trailer for 3rd game looks like chinese spinoff.
>trend hate
turning games into money making machines and not something to be blown away by
>why play?
everything else sucks even more
Mario Land 2
Portal
The death of physical media
I dont play anymore, which is kinda sad because I still come here to shitpost
I wish I was black and tall so I could act in the NBA

conker's bad fur day
Godzilla pipeworks trilogy
Optimization not thought of as important
Games are pretty fun.
What a stupid question format, two questions inside the first question and answers to the second of those can be mixed up with answers to the second(third) question. You should feel bad.
~26
Tetris or SMB probably
Banjo-Kazooie(But it will come back sooner or later, just a matter of time)
Gacha, games-as-service, microtransactions, all that trash vapid morons pay for and perpetuate
Because good games still come out. Latest one: 13 Sentinels
24 years? either mario bros 3, doctor mario, or some random nes game.
Not a series but in general the tactics/jrpg type games.
Hate the over emphasis on microtransactions, streamer esports cancer.
The price per hours of entertainment ratio is pretty good compared to other garbage media out there. As shitty as the industry has become we are still in a golden age of amazing tech, online capability, and way more options of games possible.
Well people are still answering it so It still serves it's purpose. I'll fix it for next time
idk probally 20 or 22
either nes smb or contra idk
none

seeking fun
I also hate streamers
I'm super jaded. I grew up with the classics like Doom and Quake. This means I'm a cool person.
27-28 years now, can't even remember my first game, but I think it was Superfrog on the Amiga 500
Dungeon Keeper. Like, seriously, why the fuck would EA kill it only to revive it many years later as a fucking microtransaction mobile game of all things?
Battle royales and "realistic reimaginings" of old franchises that ultimately only serve to make characters uglier while adding tons of melodrama. Microtransactions can also go to hell.
I dunno, there's still a few devs sticking around who havn't caved to the retarded trends listed above. Jap devs are still mostly based in comparison, and eroge games will still be made regardless.
>New Vegas
>Fallout (I went from a Bethesda shill to down right hating them because of what they did)
>Microtransactions/live services
>I still have my classics and they haven't found a way to take that from me yet ...

Because some games are still fun
Shit I read that a favorite not first
First was probably some Pokemon red that's the earliest I remember.
And I can't remember how long ago that was (I was under 10 I know that)
>29, Super Mario Brothers, 34 year old
>Star Ocean, Marvel Vs. Capcom, Soul Calibur, Final Fantasy, Quake, probably more
>"movie game", open world with boring/shitty combat

Because sometimes it's still fun, and I have nothing better to do.
>20+
>Final Fantasy probably, but 16 does look promising.
>it's probably the obsessive need to checklist everything, I liked the sidequest with the dragon in the new GoW until the message "dragons freed 1/3" popped up. Everything has to be duly noted and repeated so the player doesn't miss how much SIDE CONTENT there is
>cause good games come out every year and I still haven't checked even a tenth of all the classics
been gaming since the 90s. i don't really keep track of whats been ruined anymore.

Crash Team Racing
Dead Space
Insertion of real world politics and agendas. Also microtransactions.
Because games are still fun, especially single player ones.
22, first one i can remember playing was Wolfenstein 3D (it was already old by then but its what she had on her PC also with Jazz Jackrabbit iirc) with my dads secretary when he would bring me to work with him and Diablo 2 was the first game i got a original copy of
Battlefield
lootboxes/overpriced cosmetics
it's still my favorite hobby but the golden age was in the mid-late 00s when modding and server browsers were still the norm in AAA games
30+ years, I believe my first game was something on the C64 my dad got me as a young child although I can't recall what.
Zone of the Enders
The only thing I really don't like is that when multiplats are made, they get dragged down by the lowest spec system. It used to be the Vita with a lot of Japanese shit, and now the Switch is fulfilling the same role. It's not exactly something that makes me angry, just a minor irritation. Also, I miss good old chunky manuals, but that's boomer talk.
I have never at any point in my life not enjoyed playing video games. I pity deeply those who genuinely believe that video games are somehow "getting worse" over time. They're cheaper than they've almost ever been in comparison to earning power, they're made at a rate faster than they ca be consumed and with such a wide breadth and depth of genres and experiences that if you can't find something that will keep you occupied constantly, I feel like the issue lies with you. Not only that but graphical fidelity long passed the point where it was magic to me. I look at fucking PS2 games and think "what a time to be alive", everything on top of that is just a bonus. Not only that but all those games I couldn't afford as a kid and pined for looking through magazines? I can have them all, looking better than ever, for free, on my fucking phone if I wanted to. I fucking love it.
>25
>Super Mario land

>didnt fade to obscurity, but TES, thanks todd
>live service bullshit, games dying and not being preserved
>theres still good games worth playing, both old and new, but new good games are rare
i still play because i have nothing else
Oh, and my first game was either SMB or some PC freeware diamonds and stones game with a pac-man lookalike as the main character.
>23 years, Pitfall The Great Mayan Adventure on PC
>Splinter Cell
>I hate when game companies copy each other, i.e. Ubisoft Towers
>Because I am addicted to Dark Souls/Witcher/Zelda < top 3 franchises for me

gta vice city
would say half-life, but they confirmed a non-VR game will come after hl: alyx, so i'm gonna go with bioshock - 1 was perfect, infinite was utter trash for waifufags and we will never get a bioshock game again.
i despise season passes/loot boxes
i still play because backlog.
>Since 1988 and I think it's Sonic the Hedgehog on Master System.
>Wizards & Warriors, Gradius, Parodius, Duke Nukem, Hexen, Heretic, C&C, Ultima, King's Field, Quake SP, Soldier of Fortune, KKND, there are probably many more
>Digital preorders, digital games costing as much as physical games, microtransactions, day 1 patches, hamfisting political stances into narratives, lazy ports, milking the current fad
>There are still occasional gems like Yakuza, Hitman, Bing Bing Wahoo or Zelda
