There isn't a console war, it's Nintendoland followed by occasional bumps in people maybe getting something for a PS4.

The Xbox had a niche for expats(e.g. American military) and the burgeoning group of Japanese folk interested in shooters like Call of Duty, Halo, Gears of War, etc. since PC is basically the VN and porn machine.
Way back in Gen 7 that was what a lot of them were buying 360s for.
If you weren't interested in shooters a lot of 360 sales came from a lot of the Japanese exclusives Microsoft managed to get, like Tales of Vesperia rather infamously.

Since the PS4 has functional parity with the Xbone it's not really a thing these days, but with the XSX looking a lot more competitive both in terms of power and actual Japanese publisher overtures, it might be interesting to see what might actually happen. Probably nothing, but at the bare minimum it might keep Sony from being complacent faggots again.

Xbone was selling like 300 units a week mid-gen and the 360's sales weren't that much better since they were hitting like 900. There's no chance XSX will come anywhere close to being a real competitor in the jap market. Sony and Nintendo are the only real competitors in Japan.

I don't know. We'll see. I can only speak for myself but I'm not going to buy the PS5 because they've censored it and the Sex is just as good hardware wise if not better. If xbox games aren't censored it seems like a no brainer. Why would you buy a censored game, everything else being equal?

Closest thing Phil can actually realistically achieve is putting as many games as possible that will functionally run on Switch since that's where the game sales are in Japan.
