What's the least boring turn-based RPGs you've ever played? I need something more fun than "press button, watch 20 second attack animation, and repeat for 10 minutes"

Maybe Darkest Dungeon, The Banner Saga or some of the Fire Emblem games. I like Wasteland, and Divinity OS although those are closer to what you suggest.
Not really what you're asking for but Shadow Tactics Blades of the Shogun is absolutely fantastic and might be worth playing because it hits a satisfying crescendo on good runs.

Would you consider Darkest Dungeon to be fun because of its battle system, or because of all the mechanics outside of it?
It's fun because of RNG, you get so much negative shit that when you get something positive your dopamine spikes.
Unironically Tales of Game's Presents Chef Boyardee's Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden, Chapter 1 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa had the best turn based combat out of any classical turn based games.
Xcom2 if that counts otherwise
Etrian Odyssey games are lightning fast and adrenaline-fueled
That doesn't sound fun at all
Other guy wasn't me, but I think the battle system is pretty neat because of what can occur during battle. I do think the mechanics outside carry a lot of the weight, but when so much comes down to the battling itself, it all ties in well.
But, as the other user said, RNG is a bigger element than it usually is for turn-based games.

How does it compared to other "maze-like" RPGs like SMT: SJ?
I mean, do classic style roguelikes count? Stuff like CDDA, ToME, ADOM
Slower in the sense that you have to draw the map so you'll be standing around a lot (though there's auto-map where you walk just like SJ). The combat is way way faster, you can even set it to turbo mode. Combat in the original two games on DS is a bit slower though.
EO combat is my favorite JRPG combat just because of how much variety there is. There are a ton of status effects and even unique ones like binds that lock out enemies from using certain skills based on what you bound. Almost everything is viable.
>maze-like

Which is the best EO game to get started with, and in what way? Emulator?
EO4, and yeah just emulate with Citra and the DS ones with Desmume. I emulated all the games perfectly.
The Last Remnant
the revamped baton pass in P5 Royal makes the gameplay so much more fucking fun
if there was another turn based that makes my monkey brain go ooh ooh ahh aah it would be an SRPG like FF Tactics, Advance Wars, Fire Emblem, Jeanne D'Arc, or XCOM
the only turn based jrpg i've ever liked is parasite eve

What was it like in the OG? One pass per round? I honestly can't remember
yeah it was one per round AND you had to get their social link to 5 before you even got it
Oh fuck I don't remember it being that bad. I remember those first dungeons taking a while but man
thanks, also I'm a bitch
Romancing SaGa 2 and 3
Good luck figuring out what are you doing right or wrong
if you get bored with 3, move on to 4. that's what i did then i came back to 3 right after 4.
