The TV series is probably gonna tank pretty hard once people figure out that its all regressive politics and has little to do with LOTR. Pretty risky to throw money for a videogame adaptation for a show like that.

Amazon is based on the idea you can throw money and technical expertise at something to make it a successful at scale.

Lots of these tech megacorps continually try to break into industries that they don't understand. They just throw money at it, more and more, no matter what. Look at Google and their: Social networking apps, music streaming apps, movie stores, Stadia... etc.

amazon acquired double helix in 2014 and secured cryengine from crytek in 2015. they hired kim swift in the 2014. out of new world, crucible, the grand tour game, and breakaway, all are in line to have been failures. amazon's biggest win is re-licensing cryengine to walking doomsday project star citizen

Not really. They basically cancelled everything except Ms Maisel and The Boys and have changed tack with creating a mega-budget LOTR adaptation

Amazon don't want to make a profit, they want to build something mega-popular they can build infrastructure and shit around. That's how Amazon operate.

Amazon should buy a competent studio with a proven track record and go from there. They clearly don't have the expertise to make anything from the ground up, at least not on the scale they have been trying to.

Also still mad they didn't make Eddie of the realms eternal into a full fledged show.

They need to take on a major AAA game like GTA, Call of Duty or FIFA rather than trying and failing to chase trends.

Alternatively, they need to acquire IPs/brands with an existing audience and build on them.

They have like 2 game that have actually released and not been cancelled, one is a fucking Top Gear racing game and the other is an MMO that is described as "good combat but severely broken balance in PvP, where PvP is the focus of the game". You can stunlock players with basic attacks, there is no stamina system so anyone that wants to run away can run literally forever to escape, these people are so fucking incompetent its rivals Bethesda, at least Betheseda can actually follow through with a release.
