Hey Zig Forumsros i just finished Chrono Trigger and i have a few questions, i hope you can answer some of them

Is Lavos sentient?
What is Lavos exactly?
Is it just a tiny alien piloting a giant shell-like ship?

Lavos is the bit on the right beside that thing.

that tiny thing?

Yes, and you probably didn't kill it either. The sprite remains even after the screen goes white.

how does this retard artist see this in the sprite.like not even close

I'm confused, many people called it a parasite so when i first saw the Lavos core i thought it was a humanoid sentient alien and the big Lavos is just a ship he flies from planet to planet. I'm i wrong?

No it's a giant alien tick. You can see the lavos spawn when you're on your way to resurrect Chrono

Fuck if I know, dude. As far as the story explained it was just an alien which fed on planet energy, grew big, destroyed the world then shot its spores through space so they landed on other planets and repeated the process.

It's a parasite and the final boss really doesn't make much sense. You kill it's hatchlings in the bad future which are just tiny versions of it and in Chrono Cross it's shell is fused with Schala with no signs of the pod that was the real target in CT's boss fight.
I just chalked it up to unexplained video game silliness.

This is Toriyama we're talking about here doing to designs. He really loves aliens that randomly can change shape for no real reason.

He probably thought something like "Okay, Lavos is just a big alien tic monster. However, he can magically transform his central core organ into a robot looking dude using his alien energy" because that's the logic he works with

So he's just a retard version of Cell doing things on instinct like a virus

I mean, Lavos is a time-bending super alien parasite filled with millions of generations of exotic DNA all mutated by his sheer energy. He's probably not something we're meant to even come close to understanding, like some eldritch-level shit.

>Lavos was just one of an entire species of interstellar parasites
>The fact that Lavos exists means that at least one other of his species previous succeeded in conquering a planet and spreading its Lavos Spawn out to the stars
>realistically we can assume this means there are Thousands, if not Millions, of Lavos that have been successful
>Chrono's planet only managed to defeat it through time-travel fuckery that required a very specific confluence of people and places including the Sages of Zeal surviving
so basically the entire universe is already fucked

If your planet doesn't have magic or time travel or superpowered teenagers you don't stand a chance

It's even worse when you realize that the evolution of humans on Chrono's planet only came about because of Lavos engineering it. Meaning that if other parasites choose not to do this, then the residing species are double-fucked.

>win the natural evolutionary fight for supremacy by being smarter and stronger than primitive humans
>some assholes come from the future to murder you
>it's all meaningless anyway because a space parasite crashes right on top of your civilization and wipes you out
Azala and the Reptoids did literally nothing wrong and were fucking robbed

What about the entity mentioned in the forest scene?, the one who is also attributed to have opened the time portals, is it supposed to be the player?

>You kill it's hatchlings in the bad future which are just tiny versions of it and in Chrono Cross it's shell is fused with Schala with no signs of the pod that was the real target in CT's boss fight.
Could be that "Lavos Spawns" are basically just walking eggs. But the egg shell continues growing to become a carapace. It's a weird alien lifeform.

That's a little easter-egg to Schala's ultimate fate as explored in Chrono Cross with the Time Devourer

Lavos is a 4(?) Dimensional being that exists in multiple parts of time at once.
Alien is an accurate statement, like the weird things from legend of dragoon.

they exist in an alternate dimension and became the dragons, protectors of the planet.

meanwhile humans went on to exploit lavos further and became the bane of the planet.

>get away from that shit in an alternate timeline and prosper with your biggest city being Dinopolis
>the planet says "fuck that, take care of these time traveling human bastards" and pulls Dinopolis into the human version of the planet's past
>time traveling humans fucking slaughter you and slice up your god into 6 different beings

Even when they win the lizards eventually lose to filthy apes.

cross is non canon

Lavos just looks like that because it looks cool.

>when you read up on all the Chrono Cross stuff about Chronopolis and Dinopolis
that shit is so fucking cool and wild

Canon as canon can be, friend. You've had 20+ years to get over it. :^)

>They all laughed at me
>Well, they're not laughing anymore

That just seems like a happy coincidence. I don't believe Cross was planned that early, or that Schala was planned to fuse with Lavos to create the Time Devourer.

It happens in an alternate timeline so it can be canon or non-canon if you like.

>Is Lavos sentient?
Yes, it has actively meddled in human affairs and calculated the places it manipulated time.
>What is Lavos?
Alien Tick.
>Is it just a tiny alien piloting a shell like ship?
No. You go inside it.

Too elaborate for The humanoid form is effectively a "combat puppet". Lavos has access to all DNA on earth, this humanoid form was likely a defense measure.

Main timeline friend, the DS version of Chrono Trigger even connected the games. :^)

Well that's fine with me, I consider it canon

People hypothesize the "entity" is Earth itself, working behind the scenes to help prevent its destruction.

While I can accept Cross as canon, I can never take the fact Guardia was destroyed because of Dalton somehow turning a sleepy fishing village into a major military force seriously.
