Metroid Prime 4

>A new job ad for a storyboard artist was recently posted by Metroid Prime 4 developer Retro Studios, and the “description of duties” section includes some rather interesting lines
>Apparently, Retro Studios is looking for somebody who can “work with the cinematic lead to help maintain cinematic pillars,” “define emotional scenes that will resonate with audiences,” and “explore interesting and innovative scenes that elevate the narrative.”
This is not a good sign, I sincerely hope Retro is prioritizing story over gameplay in a Metroid game, we all know how that turned out the last time...

Hoping for the baby.

Metroid has always been about integrating story and gameplay since Super Metroid.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

woah, the game's gonna have cutscenes? it's doomed!!

>“define emotional scenes that will resonate with audiences,” and “explore interesting and innovative scenes that elevate the narrative.”
sounds like the MP2 ending to me

Having good characterization for Samus is necessary because we are all here just pretending like other m didn't happen. That isn't fucking good enough, we need a full fledged apology in the form of a good story that takes advantage of the badass Samus supposedly is.

THE BABY

>waifu samus in Other M
>next metroid game has Samus being a badass and under going real character growth, rising above her weakness and blasting Ridley to pieces for the millionth time
It'd be the ultimate insult

It could still be good... r-right? I mean Sakamoto isn’t shitting on it.

>define emotional scenes that will resonate with audiences
at least some companies are trying to elevate videogames from toys to art. let's see how well they do.

Super Metroid is still one of the best examples of how to do it effectively in the medium if you ask me.

Yeah, this game won't launch for another 3 years.

Fuck Nintendo, those incompetent cunts.

As long as Sakamoto isn't touching it it'll be fine. I'm worried about Tanabe though, he's gone full retard with Paper Mario recently so I'm afraid he'll go full retard with this if he's directing it again.

I guess they made all the gameplay part but they still didn't make the level designs and story. 2022 release if we are lucky

Prime 3 did that and it was pretty good. Also Fusion.

Prime 3 had a lot of cutscenes and character dialogue and that game was good. Retro has to know how bad the feedback on Other M was.

Emotional scene as in baby metroid
or emotional scene as in other m

Did the game not get rebooted a year a go?

That means it only has had about a year of development time.

Prime has always had cutscenes and small amounts of "cinematic moments". What else would you call stuff like encountering Ridley and on Frigate Orpheon and chasing him to Tallon IV in Prime 1, or the Federation Marines flashback where they get wiped out in Prime 2? Prime 3 took it a step further as we all know, but for all three games cutscenes existed and they were overall a very small portion of the game. The focus was and always will be the gameplay.

isnt this really old news

You guys remember the contrarians on this website telling us we couldn't handle a woman having a personality? I wonder where those anons are and if they even play video games.

I thought all Prime games had this? You do know they storyboard the entirety of the main game as in the point A to point B ect. Those connecting points have changes in environments and atmosphere that resonate with audiences. Retro have been kings with that in even donkey kong, don’t worry about it.

The announcement was in January 2019, I imagine they didn't do the announcement right when Retro started, so if we're being optimistic then you could say nearly two years of dev time.

Texas has been shut down via coof so one year.

Everything I've been hearing about Retro Studios over the years just makes them sound like a studio that is just on the verge of being axed by Nintendo.

Cancelled projects, long dev times, really shitty management, it feels like there's maybe a lot of talent wasted on a shitty studio. I know Miyamoto considered killing Retro 20 years ago but they were given one last chance with Prime 1, maybe they never really stopped having troubles despite the success, If MP4 hadn't been rebooted I wonder if they would still be around.

position isn't stated to be for metroid prime 4 like all the other roles have been, next

I'd argue that since they're asking for this so late into development, they built the gameplay and narrative first, and the cutscenes are going to be built around that, instead of the other way around that most developers go these days.

Japan hates the fact Americans understand Metroid more than its creator does.

Miyamoto was actually the one who pushed for first person and saw its potential for immersion despite it being quite controversial.

Working from home is a thing you know. Shutdowns didn't stop (most) other games from coming out this year.

If Prime 4 has a scripted invincibility sequence during the climax of the game, I’m sure countless people here will froth out the mouth without remembering Super did exactly that.

If they're gonna have voice acting and they don't bring back Jennifer Hale for Samus, I'm gonna riot.

I mean, if it was cool I wouldn't care either way. If that sequence is shit, being done better in an older game wouldn't save it.

>Working from home is a thing you know. Shutdowns didn't stop (most) other games from coming out this year.
The games released this year were far along in development before 'rona hit, we won't start seeing the proper effect of the pandemic until 2021

Where do you get these bullshit ideas?

If that was the case they would have never greenlit Prime 4.

the baby...

They did, under a Japanese studio. Which is in itself funny to bring back a series, increment the number at the end, NOT under the original studio. They only went back to retro after original team had fucked itself for whatever reason. So it took 2 fuck ups before they let Retro have THEIR series back. They've made the majority of Metroids at this point.
