The problem with the whole crunch thing is that people assume Europe has no labor laws and crunch means "I might as well sleep there for a few months, it will save time", but I'm pretty sure there's a hard limit on the amount of hours worked a week including overpay, while in America they can force you to work as many hours as they want as long as usually most hours of work benefit from extra pay

In Germany people are encouraged to do 56 hours in automotive industry, sometimes it's even more if there's "crunch" to shit out new prototype model, yet nobody reports that.
