How the fuck did the RPG genre peaked visually in an underpowered handheld from 2000?

The RPG genre peaked with Alpha Protocol

You're not seriously claiming GS looks better than your average FF game, are you? It looks good for a GBA game, but it's not the "peak"

Such a good series of games, it's a damn shame they never made a third one. It has some of the best music, the best graphics, and one of the most interesting pieces of worldbuilding put into it. The only complaint I can think of in these two games is dealing with Air Rock.

>visually

How did they do it?

>Never made a third game
user... you have to wake up...

Fuck this could be in a remaster/remake of the game,it would be amazing.

no idea, and no idea how the devs managed to make the DS game look worse somehow

Golden sun has a great artstyle and looks fine on the GBA, but it's a massive overstatement to say RPGs peaked visually there. especially looking at your ugly blown-up screenshots, game looks like shit if it's not being displayed on a tiny screen like intended.

there's even plenty of games that came out before Golden Sun that look way better. Just look at some of the 2D PS1 games like Breath of Fire, Suikoden and SaGA Frontier

Holy shit, the sound is so crisp. God I forgot how good were the compositions actually before Sakuraba went full autopilot

>game looks like shit if it's not being displayed on a tiny screen like intended.

Yes? That's how these sprite based games work. They're don't scale well.

I think what made Golden Sun look good was also the dynamism of the animation, everything was like so smooth and fast, it gave even the shittiest spells a ton of impact, which was highlighted even more by all those cool particle effects.

Companies still catered to niche/AA markets at that time, also gachashit hadn't completely taken over Japan yet.

I fucking love the way octopath traveler looks.

God bless Motoi

Out of the way, peasants. Superior battle theme coming through

I fucking miss midi. My first pc had a yamaha midi chip on the mobo and it made midi music sound so good.

Not even close.

I've never understood peoples fascination with golden sun. The plot is retarded, the combat is spam summons, the puzzles are braindead easy.
It's not even like this was in the videogame dark ages when shit like FF1 was considered a good game. You had motherfucking Baldurs Gate 2 a year earlier.

Octopath Traveler is so incredibly fucking ugly. Not because of the sprites, they're good, or the perspective, but because of the distusting bog-standard Unreal Engine 4 effects.

It's a lot of people's first JRPG or one they got attached to cause they played it on the a lot.

Game is a good JRPG. Stop shitting on it. Prob gets too much praise but its a good game.

delusional obsidiot

>first year GBA game had the best graphics on the system
Camelot used to be amazing

>The plot is retarded
How so?

The baddies could have just told the goodies what they were trying to do.

Are there any webms of just a standard battle? The summon attacks are nice and all, but people are doing a disservice of just how good a regular fight looks with all scrolling and scaling.

Next year, bros
We're going home

They did, you fucking retard, and the sages of Vale ignored them, which is why they had to sneak and they ended up accidentally triggering traps and losing almost every member of their team
Even at the end of the second part (game) the party is doing something others would consider bad

Using a lot of particles, apparently.

>The baddies could have just told the goodies what they were trying to do.
iirc they did tell the village elders
The elders didn't believe them

peaked the GBA library, that's for sure

The elders don't matter anymore by the time you meet them at the first lighthouse.

>Hey retards, we know this thing we are doing could cause the apocalypse, but our village will be destroyed soon!
Even Kraden (in GS2) mentions it's entirely possible the only way they can settle things with Isaac group is by fighting, and Saturos and Menardi were long dead. They didn't know if Isaac would join them or not

Do you think Isaac and co would have believed them at that point?
Nearly everyone in the GS world thought that unleashing alchemy was a bad thing.
I think the plot could be written better, but I never found it to be much worse than other JRPGs.

>take SNES style pixel art
>use it to texture primitive 3D shapes
>pile 50 fucking filters on top
If you think Octopath looks good you are retarded

>tfw the remakes will be 3D

Golden Sun fags are absolutely delusional. I dropped it within 30 minutes after being exposition bombed and tormented with terrible dialogue.

Telling them truth couldn't have been any worse than just acting like a bunch of edgelords.

camelot games always had great music
even mario golf toadstool tour had good fucking music

whoops meant to quote

Define average FF game. GS objectively looked better than all of the FF games in the same system they've shared.

I'd recommend emulating the Golden Sun reloaded romhacks and giving it another chance. Those are genuinely challenging and fun to play, and you can autofire/FF the dialogue away

This is false.
