I assume, that there is no the perfect variant, because every platform has its flaws. I've played this generation on PS4 and even though I liked some of the exclusives, I don't think they were necessary to play. Then, I look at xbox with gamepass and all that. "That seems to be a good deal", however, the games out there will not be available forever and most of them are C-tier indies. Then I remember: "PC exists. yeah, that's the right choice!" I look at the price of a mid-budget PC (700$) and I understand that I will be forced to update it in a few years, while on consoles I don't need to do that. Then I think that the new generation might not sell that well, so the devs will still put their new games on PS4 and I don't need to upgrade whatsoever.

Consoles use mid to low tier PC hardware. Most games will be multiplat and developed for the lowest common denominator(PS). To futureproof all you really need is middling hardware at the time consoles are hyping their "next gen pc killer" specs. Ask the 2500klub.
The only game I'm really interested in is Demon Souls. I like From Software's games, but I don't think that buying a console for one game is reasonable.

They do not upgrade, but they don't need it. Developers still have to optimize games for consoles, while PC can get old and it will not be able to run the games, which playstation/xbox can.
