I wish 6 face buttons became the standard, so many games are starting to feel really cramped for buttons these days, 6 face buttons and two back buttons would be great.

Bingo. This design was never intended. The controller S that was released to the Japanese was more in line for what was originally envisioned. MS had a really rough time making the Xbox in such a short period of time.

I have a close friend who unironically uses the Duke Controller and likes the Xbox because it's "like a modern Dreamcast".
He's 19 years old.
Still he got a Sega Saturn Controller and an adapter uses it for fighting games on his hacked Dreamcast so he's decently based.
