Playing through pic related (DUSK) at the moment. Just finished the first episode and enjoying it so far; it's a good old fashioned circle strafer with corner peeking elements.
After I'm done with it I'd like to give Black Mesa a go, how does it compare to original Half Life?
I actually liked Amid Evil more than dusk. It felt far more refined. That said, both are good.
Black mesa is fine. No issues really. Good game, well made, yeah, genuine quality.

DUSK is super overrated

Ion Fury was fun

Great. I'm trying to find more transitional-era style FPS games. >post-boomer >pre-aimdownsights Games like Half Life, Unreal (not tournament, just regular Unreal), FEAR, and so on.
Mods for Quake 1 can keep you busy for months. Amid Evil is a bit on the bland side but not a bad game, definitely competent
Grayson Cook
I downloaded some boomer shooter called Hedon because it was shilled in a coomer thread
Amid Evil interests me, I just haven't gotten around to pirating it yet because fuck $20 for a hexen clone
Jonathan Long
Fuck off cunt.

Have you played SiN?
If not, you should play SiN

Heard about Wrath: Aeon of Ruin after Ion Fury, is it any good? Ultrakill is in early access, but it's fucking amazing. Great gunplay, just short. Torrent then buy on launch.
Adam Nelson
I'm playing Final Doom. It's long, 28 hours in and I'm about to finish TNT: Evilution.
John Murphy
I'm almost done with ep2 of dusk and holy SHIT, I thought it was great already but my friend you don't know what you're in for. as for black Mesa, half life 1 is probably my favorite game of all time and I felt black Mesa lived up to it and even exceeded some of my expectations. I highly recommend, also the music is god tier.
Andrew Thompson
Idk why but I found Dusk a lot more fun. Maybe it was the story. I found Amid Evil to be a big of a slog at times.
Isaiah Cooper
>Heard about Wrath: Aeon of Ruin after Ion Fury, is it any good? The aesthetics and general feel are fantastic, however it's designed with non-linear level progression and automatic difficulty scaling in mind for each episode so the combat becomes very mobby and the enemy placement feels rather arbitrary and inconsequential a lot of the time, it's almost more of a painkiller or serious sam type of combat loop than a proper quake successor, still a good game though.
Charles Thomas
Amid Evil has nothing to do with Hexen besides fantasy setting. >I downloaded some boomer shooter called Hedon because it was shilled in a coomer thread Based.
same about Amid Evil, also the maps felt lazily put together to me and kind of barebones and for a boomer shooter good mapping is very important to me. Dusk had good maps
Tyler Jenkins
I second , Arcane Dimensions in particular is a blast. I would like to add that there's even more high quality usermade content for DOOM II, so much so that it would take years for you to play through it all. If you really want to play something new I'd suggest ULTRAKILL, I'm greatly enjoying the early access so far. Gabriel did nothing wrong.
Eli Clark
>first game with turret section FUCK SIN

Speaking of Quake engine shooters, how can we forget Soldier of Fortune?
Been waiting for ULTRAKILL since it was announced on Steam, and it's great. Happily waiting for Act 2. Story's very... murky, but it's like Dante's Inferno mixed with Bayonetta? Like if the angels won from Bayonetta, in a way. Gameplay was turned into a mix of DMC + Quake. It's fun as fuck.
Hudson Jackson
Project Warlock is solid. It's got some elements it fails to fully utilize, and the boss fights are generally ass, but I think overall it's a very fun maze shooter with good enemy encounters. The guns start out weak, but the upgrade paths become fun as fuck. Definitely worth sticking with even if your initial impression isn't that great.
William Brooks
amid evel was kinda garbage
Tyler Perry
playing big red one on xbox

ULTRAKILL had me nutting hard. It'll ruin other FPS games for you
I hate calling anything "like Quake" because it makes every thread devolve into shit-flinging rants about how Quake 1 movement was the best thing ever made and every game after 1996 is just a shitty knock-off. The movement, gunplay, and atmosphere are nothing like Quake. Please call it something else.
Jordan Jackson
>spoiler I wouldn't go THAT far. I'm enjoying it but I honestly feel like the weapons could be better. I don't really care for the shotgun or the nailgun. I'll give you that it has my favorite pistol of any FPS I've ever played though.
Landon Phillips
That's extremely autistic, but I do think it is its own thing, just trying to explain what the genre of gameplay is similar to; hard to describe something without analogies. It's unlike a lot of shooters I've played, it's fast paced, and it's one of the best in terms of gameplay that I've seen in recent years. The movement is sorta strange, it's got 3D platforming mechanics you'd expect out of a Mario game but they're implemented really well into first person. Also the guns are fantastic, and have real oomph to them, alongside the score system it's not entirely unlike a first person Hotline Miami? Health system is more like older shooters, though, so no insta-death.
Joseph Foster
>score-based absolutely kills the buzz for me, would have been so much better as a traditional shooter.
based. The bomber crew level is one of my favorite parts of any game.
Chase White
pretty much all of Monolith has you covered some personal favorites: Bet On Soldier Nosferatu Judge Dredd: Dredd Versus Death Vivisector (only if slavjankophile) Project Snowblind Clive Barker's Undying Red Faction (2 optional) Timesplitters FP with dolphin mousehack
Nathaniel Thompson
>toss a coin just before a malicious face shoots it's exploding laser >it hits the coin >it gets reflected back to the boss It's just the best
>score-based The score's just for a rating, user, it doesn't actually do anything
Jonathan Nelson
DUSK is good but I got filtered. I wish I was still young.
Jayden Rogers
>t'll ruin other FPS games for you It depends. I particularly think that games like Ultrakill and Doom Eternal transcend the FPS genre and that is interesting, but on the other hand sometimes going beyond the specific boundaries of a genre is not necessarily something that all players are looking for. I like FPS whose movement is simple, because it forces me to always consider my position in relation to enemies while I prioritize targets, which I find more interesting than being an agile superhero who can do crazy stunts.
Hunter Lewis
But you can tell they made it easy with the intent that the player would self-impose difficulty for a better score. It's been a while since I've played, but the last time I checked, the game is pretty trivial once you get your hands on the nailgun.
Michael Foster
>Overwhelmingly Positive >Early Access >reviews are memes Doubt.

>3D Realms' Realms Deep thing was just trailer after trailer of fun-ass lookin shooters Who else was the target audience
>WRATH: Aeon of Ruin full release is 2021 >ULTRAKILL full release is 2021 >GRAVEN is planned for 2021 >Maximum Action full release is fuck knows when >Hedon chapter 2 release is fuck knows when So, are we getting any proper releases this year or what? Also, multiplayer fps renaissance fucking when?
user, that's why Pirating exists. Just do that if you doubt if a game is good, then buy it if you like it; or just straight up don't, either way, up to you.
Bentley Taylor
Supposedly Diabotical made some waves for AFPS's again, but I'm not touching it with a 100 foot pole because it's on EGS. If it comes out on GoG or maybe Steam, then depends on how fun it is or how alive the servers are.
